Reflections for Police Officer Gary Jonathan Buro

Gary, your one of the best guys I met after transferring into the MTS. I'll never forget that phone call you gave me and congratulated me on that rescue of the Empire State Building job, and I told you I was with Coddy and you just laugh and said make sure you tell him I said hello. Gary you'll never be forgotten but will be missed.

GARY, I remember running into you during your time at Mid Town South (NYC). Even though you were a newly assigned officer, I remember you as a genuine ,openly friendly person and the constant professional. I remember joking about the differences of police work from Fla. an NYC. We have been robbed of your friendship. I shall look back on thoes times and remember all the good things. Rest well with your wife, you've earned it.

I was fortunate to have met you the day you graduated from the Pre-Cert Academy. I will never forget the stories you told us that day. Chesterfield has lost a great officer. The only thing that makes this easier is that you are now with your wife in heaven. May you both rest in peace.

Gary,

You were my squad leader while we were in the NYPD academy. I sat right next to you on the very first day that we were sworn in as New York City cops. We were both originally from NJ, and i liked you from the moment that we met. You were ALWAYS upbeat about things, and when our squad 00-42 got out of line, you reprimanded us and STILL had that smile on your face. I left the NYPD for the FDNY about a year later, and always wondered how you were doing. I'm sorry that i never reached out to you when you worked in MTS. I heard about what happened to your wife about a year ago and it broke my heart. I wanted to call you to give you my condolences, but thought that it might rehash the memory. I'm sorry that i didn't call, if anything, just to say hello. Brennan just called me today to break the news to me, and i'm absolutely devastated. You didn't deserve this Gary! Not you! I know i haven't seen you in almost 6 years, but we spent quite a bit of time toghether in the Police academy, and it still hurts as if i just saw you yesterday. Please take care up there, you've done your time down here.

Take care Brother,

Love ya!

Gary, nothing that I say or do can ease the pain that we all feel. You have made the ultimate sacrifice to this country and to this community. You have had a very hard and challenging life. You have been pushed to your limits and sometimes knocked down, but you’ve still managed to get back up and continue the fight. You’ve fought hard and you've fought well. You are friend to many and a hero to all. But your time has come to lay down your shield and move onto a better place. Your brothers in arms are right behind you to finish the fight. Please look down on us and protect us as we continue the fight and take care of our community. You are in a much better place; a place you can walk the streets in peace, hold the ones you’ve missed and watch over the ones that are left behind. You are relieved of your post Marine. Semper Fi.

Gary...You were an amazing guy who's strength was far greater than anyone I have known. Your courage to move on past the tragic loss of your wife was something I have always admired. I remember the talk we had about your and how she was taken away from you and i told you that she had payed her dues here on earth and has moved on to eternal happieness. Thank you so much for all that I have learned from you and your smile that made me remember that no matter how bad things get we must be strong because life is short. ...Brother from MTS RIP

To my sweet,sweet boy,

I'll never forget the summer of 1985 when I first met mischievous 14 year old Gary. I instantly was infatuated with your crooked smile & your goofy sense of humor. As we grew up and became adults our lives took us in very different directions. When I reconnected with you in June 2004, I was amazed how that silly little boy I remembered had grown into a handsome, intelligent man(and wearing the NYPD uniform to boot!!) I was blown away by your strength and determination to try to find happiness again after losing your precious Jen. We bonded over our shared difficult life circumstances & our deep friendship turned into a wonderful, unconditional love. My G, I am so priviledged & blessed that God allowed me to have the honor of loving the most kind & gentle man that I know. My love, from this day forward I will live my life in such a way that will always bring honor to your memory. Gary, I promise you that I will never give up and I will never stop loving you. Good Bye, my silly boy. You will always be in my heart, Gary Buro.

Reality

Imagine how our world would be
If every police officer quit
Turned in their gun, turned in their badge,
Just finally had enough of it.

No respect, no loyalty,
No appreciation of all they do,
They’d give their lives for all of us,
These wonderful officers of “Blue”.

Kicked at, spit on,
Punched, stabbed and shot,
Everyday assaults on officers,
Done…without thinking a second thought!

Our laws are in favor of criminals,
There’s always some loophole in their case,
Out again to commit more crimes and murders
…creates pain, that we, the family and friends
…in time will never erase.

Why should they do it?
Why take the risk?
Why put their life on the line?
Subject their loved ones to endless suffering,
When their precious life is lost while fighting crime.

More murders, more kidnappings, more robberies and rapes,
Just to mention a few,
Please ask yourself how life would be,
If there were NO officers in Blue!

Would you do it? Could you do it?
And for how many…would YOU give it all?
Rewards are a 21 gun salute, a Medal of Honor,
And your name gets added to the Wall.

Think about it. Why are they here?
And why do some hate them so?
Because they enforce the laws that put convicts and murderers
In jail serving time, or on “Death Row”.

All give some and some give all,
It’s a risk they chose to take:
To put their heart and soul in it,
To put their lives at stake.

So, please take a moment,
Please give it deep thought,
Think of what “you can do”…

To help show respect,
To help follow the laws,
So we’d quit losing our Heroes in Blue!

As I think about what to write, I do not know where to begin. Officer Gary Buro was a great person. He was a great Officer. It was truly an honor to know and serve with him. The sacrifice he made was the ultimate, and I will never forget him. He is truly a hero.
It is important for us all to remember our time on earth is insignificant to the eternity of Gods love. Our time here is like a signle night in heaven. With that said, I will sleep tonight knowing that I will see you in the morning my brother Gary, I will see you in the morning.
God Bless you.
