I've never lost a member of my family before, but now I've lost a brother. Even though I never had the privilage of getting to know Gary, I know that the department is less without him. We will never forget the ultimate sacrifice you made to make our community a safer place to live. God bless your family and friends. Watch over the rest of us as we continue the job and keep us safe from harm. R.I.P Brother...

While I never had the privilege of meeting you, I now reside in Chesterfield County and feel that our entire community will be suffering from this tragedy for quite some time. I suppose it goes to show us time and time again that no call is ever "routine" - and none of us know when danger lurks around the corner. Any of us who have ever worn a uniform know that there is a certain amount of risk, but it never eases the pain for those left behind.

Go with God, sir and rest in peace. Know that your service to your county, state and nation will not go unrecognized.

I never really had the chance to get to know you in school, but I always knew you were very special and would do great things in life. When I think back on those years, I see someone that had the respect and admiration of just about everyone he met and someone that touched so many lives without even realizing it. Thank you for the years of unselfish service you gave all of us as both a Marine and as a Police Officer. I was saddened to learn of the challenges you faced these past years and shocked by how suddenly you were taken from this world. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family and friends. The world will not be the same without you in it.

Gary, I have not seen you in a long time, but it seems like yesterday. I relflected back at the days when we were at Parris Island. How you always had a smile on your face and always looked at everything in life with a positive attitude. You are an inspiration to all of us in how you conducted yourself and you will be missed always. Ross and I talked about the days back in the Corps when we all were on the island and it brought warmth in my heart. I did not know you were in Richmond and I wish we could have caught up after all these years. You will be missed more than words can describe. Rest in peace brother and semper fi.

My sincere condolences to the Buro family.
My first thought when I heard about Gary was that
"Jen needed him". May the reunited souls of Jennifer and Gary rest in peace. Two wonderful people who are dearly missed by all who were lucky to know them.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the friends, family members and fellow officers of Officer Gary Buro.

When I read online Friday about the death of Officer Gary J. Buro it really touched a spot in my heart as my husband is also a police officer in Virginia and when something like this happens to one it affects all the families of law enforcement.

I was even more sadden when I received calls this Sunday morning from family back in NJ and realized that Officer Gary Buro was the same Gary Buro that I graduated with from Jefferson Township High School in NJ back in 1990.

He will be missed by all of those whose lives he's touch.

Dear Buro Family,

There are no words that we can say right now that will make your sorrow go away. But we can say that the bible is correct when it says "We receive peace beyond all understanding when we go through awful times" We have been through what you are going through right now. Please know that our hearts are aching for you. You have our prayers and support even though you have never met us. You are in wonderful hands, first with God, and then you also have the Chesterfield Police Department and the whole Chesterfield Community. They will hold you up!!!! We will never forget all the wonderful people down in Chesterfield and think of them everyday. We know they are taking of you. God Bless!

To the family and co-workers of Officer Buro-
As we were honoring California's 2005 fallen officers, you suffered the tragic loss of your own hero. May it somehow comfort you to know that your sorrow is shared by so many in the community of law enforcement officers and survivors. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you during this difficult time.

What does it take to walk into a dark house into an unknown situation in the middle of the night? To serve your country in a time of war and peace? To overcome personal tragedy? COURAGE! Officer Buro had plenty of that. My thoughts and prayers go out to his friends, family, and fellow police officers. Thanks for making our world a safer place for us.

I'll never forget the morning of May 4th, 2006 at 0640 when I woke to the ringing of a telephone. When I answered it and heard my Sergeants voice, I knew something was wrong. The news devastated me and it was so close to home with the incident occuring just one block across from the University. I threw the uniform on and rushed into work. I recieved numerous phone calls with updated information as it became available.

When I learned of the officers involved grief and sadness filled my heart.

Although I never had the oportunity to get to know Gary, I feel like i've known him for years. Hearing of the life of Gary starting with his Military service as a MP in the Marine Corps, serving his comminity in Florida, and then a survivor of 9-1-1 as a NYPD officer, one has to wonder why would a corrections officer take the life of a police officer and what team was he on? Thats the ironic part that I'm left to cope with. Officer Gary J. Buro I salute you brother, rest in peace with your newly reunited wife, for now we have the watch.

To the Buro family may GOD be with you ALL through this difficult time as you grieve over your loved one. My prayers are with you.

My brother Officer Joe Diman, whom I worked very close with as we answered calls in Ettrick and backed each other on traffic stops on the evening shift, I'm so grateful to know he will be alright and pull through. Officer Diman is a true American Hero for his bravery and will to fight as he lied on the scumbag that eventually died. The preserverance he displayed to fight when he was shot five times, once in his chest, once in his hand that disarmed him, once in the back in the back (vests save LIVES!!!!!)and once in each leg, and then to turn and face your adversary, tackle and wrestle with him, to exhausted and barely enough strength to carry on was able to get handcuffs on him. What an amazing individual!!!!!!! The road to recovery will be long my brother, however I know you will get through it. I can't wait to see you on the street soon.

All,

It was always fun sleeping over when we were kids....Nick was there. Ralph and Gary turned me on to Gary Moore, a guitarist...I can't remember his songs but I remember Gary really liked him...

The keg inside the wall was a nice secret too....

Gary - You will be missed....
