Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Jeremy Preston "Jay" Chambers

Another hero taken too soon from us by yet another drunk driver!! May the family, friends and co-workers of Officer Chambers find comfort in the fact that Jeremy is on the beat in Heaven and his sole duty is to keep watch over us here on earth, especialy the ones in uniform.

He died a hero and he will never be forgotten. Work with your local MADD Chapter in the prosecution of this case so the offender is sentenced to what he deserves.

Bless Jeremy's family and fellow officers as they go through the hardest time of their lives. I will be praying for you and ask that God bring you comfort and ease your grief. Officers: Keep your heads high and your hearts pure. Pull over every weaving driver to get the drunks off the road so not another person is killed or injured by this preventable crime.

You are loved and appreciated.

Love and hugs to ease the grief.

On behalf of the City of Springfield Illinois Police Department, Police Chief Donald W. Kliment and the Springfield Police Department Honor Guard, I would like to extend our sympathy and love during this time of loss of another brother in blue. I extend this sympathy and love not only to Officer Chambers' blood relatives, but also to the chief and fellow officers of the Cahokia Police Department. The thoughts and prayers of our entire department will be with you as you struggle through this extreme period of grief and we hope that you can dwell on the many good memories and accomplishments that Officer Chambers leaves behind. Always remember the Bible passage John 15:13 - Greater love hath no man than this; that a man lay down his life for his friends. We know that Officer Chambers gave his all in an effort to protect his fellow man from wrong and in doing so, paid the ultimate price so that his fellow man can dwell in a better world.

Jeremy and I were hired the same day, Sept. 5, 2003. Before that he and I were Deputy Marshal's together. I have had the honor of working with Jeremy our entire time with the Cahokia Police Department. I will miss seeing Jeremy's face and his humor everyday when I go to work. My prayers go out to Jeremy's family. While we have lost a terrific Policeman and person, his family has lost a brother and son. I love you Jeremy, you will be missed.

Jeremy,
It was a sad day when I learned of our loss. You were a true friend and co-worker. I will always remember you each and every time I put on my uniform for another shift.I have worked with your dad, Earl, and brother, Chris, in my many years here at Cahokia PD. I saw qualities in you that I saw in them and know you did an outstanding job in the Chambers family tradition. I even remember when you were born and growing up around here. I will miss your humor and professionalism. My condolences to the entire Chambers family. Jeremy, your watch has ended too soon but may you now go to your reward for a job well done.

Jeremy:
It seems like it was just yesterday we were going through session 90 of the academy together. Those 10 weeks are still fresh in my mind. Thanks for the dedicated service you gave to those in and around your community. So many people have reminded themselves of the work you did for the police, fire and ambulance departments. My next DUI arrest will be done in your memory. I know you will be with all of us, keeping us safe each time we hit the streets. Until we meet again brother, rest in peace.

Jeremy, My Friend

With God in your life, you were not an accident or an incident; you were a gift to the world, a divine work of art, signed by God.
What makes you unique is you, your signature on life. In the scheme of nature you are not as a whole unique. You aren't the only creature with flesh and hair and blood and a heart. What makes you special is not only your body but the signature of God in your life. You are his work of art. You were created in his image to do good deeds and you did. You were significant, not because of what you did, but because of whose you are.
Jeremy is one of God's children and in him was created a Signature Master Piece by our creator.
Jeremy's assignment on this earth is now complete. He carried out God's orders. He touched the lives of many with his gifts from above. You will be missed my friend but certainly never forgotten.
You have won the race and now it has come time for you to collect the prize. This is your reward, to live in peace forever with your Heavenly Father.

My thoughts and prayers are with Officer Chambers and his family. I am very sorry that you must walk this painful journey. I am sorry for the community, also. The people have lost a police officer and a firefighter. My son Jay was a law enforcement officer and a firefighter also. Jeremy and Jay were special people who will always be remembered. Heroes live forever. Rest in peace, Officer Chambers, and thank you for your service and dedication to the community.

To the family of Officer Jeremy Chambers:
Be strong, Jeremy will be missed by all. If there is only one benefit, heaven has received a fine patrolman to watch over the rest of us. Jeremy was an asset to the Village of Cahokia and the law enforcement community in his short two years and six months as a patrolman. Jeremy was doing what he loved most and following in his father’s foot steps.

Jeremy you will be remembered and never forgotten… Rest in peace my brother…

To Police Officer Jeremy Chambers, his loved ones and his fellow officers in the Cahokia Police Dept.:

I was so saddened to learn of the tragic death of another young officer who was killed in the line of duty. His loss devastates all those who loved Jeremy.

May his family be comforted by the warm embrace of their law enforcement family, and other police survivors who share this painful journey with you. As a second generation police family, the brotherhood and sisterhood of the Chambers law enforcement family must be very large indeed.

To Jeremy, please know that your life is honored and revered today. Reading all the loving reflections left by those who cared for you gives us an understanding of what a good and honorable man you were and of the high esteem with which you are held.

My heart is with your family and you are all in our thoughts and our prayers. I share your agony. My youngest son was fatally shot pursuing two robbery suspects on April 23, 2005 although he was not pronounced brain dead until the following day, thus your end of watch date is one year apart.

Jeremy, you rescued us, saved our possessions, our lives and our families. You are one of the rare heroes among us. You were always there for us in the most traumatic moments of our lives. No matter when we called, we just expected that you would come and do whatever it took to help us, and you always met our expectations. Your selflessness and dedication are awe-inspiring.

This world, this country, your community truly are better places because of you. To have lost you is a great tragedy, an irreplaceable, immeasurable loss for society. We are grateful for and to you, and honor you for all you did for us day in and day out whether you received a word of thanks or praise.

Rest in Peace, Officer Chambers. I am so humbled by your valor and courage. I also salute your service as a firefighter.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Jeremy gave to his community and the citizens of Illinois, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on April 24, 2006.

Through a Policeman’s eyes.

I saw cheerfulness in your eyes today
‘Sure is a pretty day’ you said, climbing into your cruiser to start your day.
I saw amusement in your eyes as you tried not to smile when the man explained why he was not really picking up a prostitute, it was just a mistake.
I saw patience in your eyes as you gently explained to an elderly man
why he could not drive up the street the wrong way.
I saw pride in your eyes when you listened on the phone to your son , telling you he’d got an ‘A’ in his test.
I saw love in your eyes as you tenderly thought of the bouquet of roses you’d take for your wife when you finished your shift in a few hours time.
I saw pleasure in your eyes as you remembered the pretty yellow hair ribbon tucked in your shirt pocket, as you picture your little daughter’s delight.
I saw your eyes, so hard and cold, as you put the drunk driver in the back of your car.
I saw your eyes fill with tears as you glanced back at the wreak he’d caused.
I saw your eyes full of despair as you lent your forehead against the door frame before squaring your shoulders as you started to knock.
I saw the compassion in your eyes as you knelt in front of the mother to tell her that her son won’t be coming home again.
I saw the urgency in your eyes as you raced to the call, a man with a gun, a dangerous scene.
I saw the pain in your eyes when the bullet struck.
I saw your eyes close as you started to slip away.
I saw horror in your partners eyes as he held you tight, told you to hang on, help was coming, please don’t die.
I saw soul wrenching grief when he knew you were gone.
I saw disbelief and the tears inhis eyes.
I saw today through a Policeman’s eyes.

In memory of all fallen officers.

Lord,
He was yours to give,
and yours to call home,
please stand by his brothers,
so they don't feel alone,
dry the tears of his family,
so they clearly see:
that he gave his all,
so all could have peace.
Blessed are they,
the children of God,
with heavy hearts,
and honor - they trod,
to pay their respects,
to give their salute,
and to ask for your mercy,
on heroes in Blue.
Amen.

Jeremy, rest easy brother, we have the watch.

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

Rest in Peace Brother, we have the watch from here.
