Reflections for Corporal Scott Lee Severns

I love you.

July 23, 2007

Scott,
As you know, Kelly Dulcet has joined your force in heaven. She so wanted to be an officer, and was so close. It's comforting to know that she is in heaven with you and Nick. May you all rest in peace. You are all so missed!

July 17, 2007

Well, there you were again. Just when we thought it was going to rain on your First Annual Memorial Golf Outing, the squads started their lights, the carts were lined up and started out to the course, and lo and behold, the skies cleared to a beautiful, sunny day. Of course, in true Scott-Style, you had a challenging wind kick up. Nevertheless, the outing was a tremendous success with great, great folks putting it together; volunteers who made sure everything went smoothly and the staff at Blackthorn was incredibly courteous and efficient. Couldn't have asked for a better day, Sev. It was an outpouring of family, friends and citizens who shared memories and boy, did we laugh a lot. Miss you tons and can't wait until next year.

We still think of you daily. I still cry for you, a man I never had the plesure to meet. Maybe someday. Take care superman

Well Scott, it looks like we are going to have to wait longer to see justice served. I just saw on the news that the judge is going to allow the sentencing date to be pushed back another couple of months. It is just not right. He is guilty, he knows it, we all know it. I know that you have been watching over us, helping us through this. I know that you would be so proud of your mom and sister. They have been so strong through these tough times. They could not have done it without you.

Hi buddy.... everyday it just is not the same without you. It has been 443 days and is still so hard to believe you are gone. I wait everyday for you to walk in with that grin on your face. You are watching over all of us so I know you are grinning sometimes and saying to yourself look how stupid these people are. Next week will be tough for your family and friends. Tuesday is d-day. That judge better give that thug life or there will be alot of very unhappy people in this community. Justice does need to be served. Scott - you are missed so very much.

Scott

I can't believe your birthday slipped my mind. Forgive me! Your mom and Bruno came over to share some moments of your sweet memories yesterday. Old Bruns is a pistol and seems to be trying to be his old self again.

Stay with your mom and sis and whole family and keep them strong. They miss you so, as we all do. You have so many wonderful friends who truly miss you and you are constantly in our thoughts.

Godspeed and miss you....

Happy Birthday! I love and miss you more than words can explain!

June 25, 2007

Scott,
Not a day goes by that I don't think about you. I am especially thinking about you today because today is your birthday. I wonder how you are going to spend it. I am sure that you and Nick are together sharing stories. I hope that you look out for your parents and all of your extended family. Today is going to be a difficult day. But we will somehow manage to get through it, hopefully with your help. We all love and miss you so very much.
The golf outing is just around the corner. There are only a couple more spots left. That is just amazing that so many people are going to come out to honor you and all of our fallen heroes. I hope and pray for good weather. I know that you will do everything you can to make it a sunny day for us. I know that you were looking out for me this past weekend. The weather couldn't have been better for me since I was on the ball field all weekend. As always, you are in our thoughts and prayers...HEROES NEVER DIE

June 25, 2007

"Happy Birthday" seems a little inappropriate to say. Instead, I want to take a moment to thank God for choosing this day in 1969 to let us share you here on earth. We may not have gotten as much time as we wanted, but what time we did have with you was precious beyond measure.

Please keep an eye on those you loved most left here behind and hurting. Some of us are doing okay, but most of us are still struggling to adjust to life without you in it. I'm guessing you've got your hands full .....

Happy Birthday Scott Lee. We all love you and miss you more than words can say.

June 25, 2007

Scott - not a day goes by that I don't talk to you several times a day. I hope you are not too busy to listen to me.I know you are with us watching over everyone and trying to keep everyone in line. For some that is a tough job for you - they seem to be lost without you. Keep smiling buddy. We all love you and will never forget you.

This past month has been a whirlwind, Little Fish. One year and one month and it still seems so surreal. Seeing your name on the wall in DC, hearing it read at the Vigil and the Capitol, and seeing all of the other families that were hurting from a loss so similar to our's was humbling. It was an honor you deserved and a moment that we will treasure.

Things are crumbling for several of your friends now, Buddy. This is a rough time and they are facing an unenviable road. Please hang out with them, hold them close and feed them a little of your strength and a good dose of your pride and yes, even arrogance. They need to remember the example that you set in all things -- head up, shoulders back, and face the world head on no matter how scary and painful it may be.

Please continue to help Denise and your dad and your mom to heal as life goes on without you physically in it. But never fear, Little Fish - we see your signs and feel your presence all the time. There are just too many "23's" to be coincidence.

A Buddy

Scott,
Thirteen months have passed since your life was tragically and senselessly taken away. The pain of losing you is still fresh in our minds and our hearts. Last week your name was added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial Wall. The representation from South Bend was the second largest of all agencies in the entire country. That speaks volumes as to why you loved South Bend so much. It also shows how much you are loved and missed by so many people. Bryant met the president. There is a picture of him and the president in the tribune. I know that you are so proud of him. The golf outing is fast approaching. I am sure that all of the spots will be filled. Though you have been gone from our lives for thirteen months, you are ALWAYS at the forefront of our thoughts. I hope that you are looking down on your family and friends and smiling knowing that we are doing everything that we can to keep your memory alive. Godspeed Brother. HEROES NEVER DIE

Corporal Severns,
My husband and I were in DC this past weekend and made it a point to find your name on the wall. Thank you for your service to our community. And to all the SBPD and St. Joe County PD, thank you for all you do and give for us.

Well....this weekend your name went on the wall. So many guys went out for the occasion...I know you know who. It is a testament to the kind of guy you are to have so many people affected by your life and death. Keep an eye on them....as always.

May 14, 2007

Sev,

Can't help but think of you this week while everyone is in Washington. Your presence has been so strong this week, it is incredible. Even Bruno has stepped up and knows that this is your week.

God Bless you and all the brothers and sisters in Blue who sacrificed the ultimate price in the line of duty. You are so missed and we will never forget you.

Godspeed.

Dear Scott,

I saw your mom and Al in the South Bend Tribune as they left the courthouse. What a strong people they are. Jeff Finley pleaded guilty to all charges against him. I know this won't bring you back but at least SOME justice will be served. Please watch over Nick and his family Scott. We miss you so much.

To write what should be written could be a mistake. Therefore, let's just say that on July 18th, the day of judgement and sentencing, we will await a final and true justice for you, my friend.

May the winds of truth and justice surround the good Judge on this case for the outcome that this community and every community needs to make the right statement to carry forward the Law of the Land.

Without it, we are nothing and we have no civilization as the thugs would try to have us come down to their level.

We miss you and think of you always. Know that everyone is standing strong and standing for you.

Godspeed to you.

This morning in front of Judge Chamblee, Jeff Finley entered a GUILTY plea on all charges releated to the shooting death of Cpl. Scott Severns.

Finley pled guilty to:

MURDER
FELONY MURDER
ATTEMPTED ARMED ROBBERY

Finley is still looking at a possiblity of LIFE W/O parole as a sentence or could recieve less of a sentence, it is now up to the discression of Judge Chamblee.

His sentencing date is set for JULY 18th in Judge Chamblee's court room at 8:00am.

NOTHING can you bring you back to your friends and family, but it appears justice will be served.

You are forever our hero, forever in our hearts. Help Nick out up there, your brothers have the watch.

May 2, 2007

Well, some justice is being served. He pled guilty of all charges yesterday. While he will be going to prison, we all know in our hearts that he will not be put away for life. It is such a tragedy, your life was cut short and taken away by a thug. It is not fair the way our judicial system is set up, that the victim has less rights than that of the offender. Words can not explain how we all feel right now. You are in our thoughts daily Scott. I miss you.

May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields and,
Until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand

May justice be served...Semper Fidelis
