Reflections for Sergeant Henry Prendes

Henry's murder hit a little to close to home. I am very similarly situated and have regained some focus on my life.

I give my heart felt sympathy to his children, thier mother and his wife.

God Bless

I cry inside every time an Officer is taken from us. My thoughts and prayers are with Sgt. Prendes family and fellow officers. Regardless of how many times this happens, it never gets any easier,when we lose an officer the community has suffered a great loss, but not as hard as it is on his brothers in arms. During my 32 years with Detroit we lost over 34 officers, and I still say a prayer for them and all Police Officers everywhere. God Bless those who have chosen to serve. R. Sexton

the loss of an officer is never and easy thing for any one to take. But those who who share the bond of the badge know that no matter by what titles we are called we are all brothers and sisters. The loss of Sgt Prendes hits all of us in our own way. His loss will be felt by us all. My love and prayers to the Prendes Family and The Family of the LVMPD.

My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of loss. I wish you strength in the days ahead.

Our family began our journey on this raod of grief and healing just a short period ago; no words can undo the events that took place those awful days. What we have learned is that there are all sorts of good people out there who have reached out to us with thoughts, prayers and words of encouragement.

We will keep you and your girls in our thoughts and prayers. Our loved ones are together watching over us.

It is truly unfortunate that we as a society have come to the place where we only honor the great officers among us in tragedy. It is apparent in reading the reflections that Sgt. Prendes was a man who had powerful influence over the people he led and those he contacted. Although some who lay down their lives for their Country and/or Community are merely martyrs, anyone who has the type of influence in death that Sgt. Prendes has is truly a hero. For this the Prendes family should be truly proud.

To the members of the LVMPD involved in this incident: This incident is a true statement to your professionalism, courage and competence. As a Sergeant at a large agency, I truly pray that those in my charge and my colleagues will respond with the same heroism that you all showed if I ever I find myself in this situation.

We are praying for you all.

"Look, I go forward, but He is not there, and backward I cannot perceive him; When He works on the left hand, I cannot behold Him; When he turns to the right hand, I cannot see Him. But He knows the way that I take, when He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold" Job 23:8-10

My thoughts and Prayer are for the family and friends of Henry Prendes.

To all police officers you are heros.

My husband is a police officer, my friends ask me if I worry. My answer is "I can't worry because if I do I will make myself sick." Every night I pray that God will take care of him and bring him home safe. In my eyes he's my hero.

I was recently on vacation in Las Vegas and I had the unfortunate opportunity to see the funeral for Sergeant Henry Prendes. It hit home because we have recently had a police officer shot and killed in the line of duty also in our community. I watched with sadness as the casket passed by us and I couldn't help how to think how greatful we are in this country to have brave police officers protecting us everyday no matter where we go. It is very sad that Sergeant Prendes will never know how many officers and people showed up to pay their last respects. I am sure his wife and children are very proud of him and my family wishes her the best of luck in their future.

God bless Sergeant Prendes and also the police department that he has worked with.

Most Sincerely

Last Tuesday as Sergeant Prendes' fellow officers and others in public service passed by on the 215 - many of us going the other way pulled to the center divider and stopped out of respect. I cried both in sadness and because I was witnessing so much love and respect for a police officer from so many different people. Pulling back on the freeway, I noticed that so many of us in cars, trucks, 18 wheelers, almost everyone, was moving so very, very slowly - I imagine each of us paying our respects in our own silent way. I just asked my little girl what she thinks of police officers and she said "they take away the bad guys who try to hurt us and they help us and they are nice".

My heart goes out to the Prendes family.

Rest in Peace Sergeant Prendes.

To the Prendes family, Dawn and girls. I recall Henry through casual conversations during high school. As I watched the journey of his life through his televised passing from this earth, I cracked open my old yearbooks, and was taken immediately back to a time of youth & wonder and hope of bright futures to come. In my Christian walk, I know where I have failed my Lord and failed many, in my words and my actions. Your Henry was right on target in conveying to you the importance of focusing on building and stregthening your personal relationship with Jesus. I am proud to say I knew Henry Prendes. And even prouder to see his life unfold, as an officer of the law, and as an officer for the Lord. Dawn and girls, may you revel in the joy of this. In closing, I leave a poem which I found a while back. Dios los Bendiga.

"I'M FREE.
Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free
I'm following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard him call;
I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way;
I found that place at the close of day.

If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared a laugh, a kiss;
Ah yes, these things, I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I savored much;

Good friends, good times, a loved ones touch.Perhaps my time seems all to brief;Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now, He set me free."

HP..you will be forever missed. Gone from this place, but never forgotten, especially with those of us from SA who saw you everyday for the last 5-6 years. Thank You for all the laughs and good memories.

We will continue to fight the good fight and continue on with the "watch" from here, for your watch is now over. You can forever rest in peace and watch over the rest of us.

I know that you are in the great golf course in the sky, probably getting ready to tee off right now, so I will let you go.

I hired on about the same time that you did. As a dispatcher it was always my first priority to save not only the citizens but the officers as well. I was always looking out for "my" officers so that they would always go home safe to their families. For so many years it had always worked out "okay" in the end.
Your passing hit me hard. I wish with all my heart that I could have "saved" you that day.
But, I know with all my heart that it was not in our hands. I know that everything always happens for a reason. The events of that day were horrible. But, I believe that you and the other brave units that arrived on scene saved so many lives. So many citizens and fellow officers were protected that day because of LVMPD.
Sgt. Prendes, you were put upon this earth to be an example of how to be a good person. You had so many friends, loved your daughters and wife more than anything, lived each day to the fullest, and gave your life to do what you loved to do... protect and serve. Although I know they will miss you more than any of us can imagine, your awesome influence on them will live on with them forever. Your little girls will always remember that their Daddy was a hero.
Neither I nor anyone could have saved you that day... but you saved more people and have touched more lives than you could ever have imagined. I thank you .. and your family is in our prayers. God Bless.
