Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Ethan G. Collins

Just feeling like I need to write something on here after seeing how many officers lately have been killed. I feel deeply for their families and the shock and hurt that their hearts are feeling. It does not go away, time does not heal it. Your family, friends and coworkers just learn to adjust with the fact that you are no longer there each day.
We miss you and love you and you are never forgotten.

Couldn’t be here on the day we laid you to rest my friend, but I committed someday I would come back to Ohio and honor your grave. Hired you, trained you and mourn the loss of your smile and vitality. Rest In Peace Ethan

In January it was 12 years since the horrible day in which you were taken from us.
We love the kids and try to go to some of their games and watch them. They are both such good kids, we love them so much.
On this past Saturday two Westerville officers were killed in the line of duty. Welcome them and let them know that their service did not go unnoticed, and they are being grieved for and that the criminal that killed them will be paying a great price for doing such a horrible thing, by taking them from their families and friends much too soon.
We love and miss you Ethan, we miss you still so much.

Its been 9 years. We all miss you very much, and we love you. Your kids are growing up so beautifully. You would be proud of them, and proud of Kylie. And Brendan, he loves Star Wars just like you! You guys would have had fun together. Miss Allie speaks of you often. Your brother misses you very much. We went to the cemetary today when they were having a memorial for you, its so awesome to see how many lives you affected, you defiantly have a lot of people that love you very much. Rest easy.

Happy Birthday

October 30, 2014

Well Ethan not sure why you are totally on my mind today but you are.. You are there a lot but today I keep crying. Not sure why, because your and Moms birthday is in 5 days and we were laughing about your first Halloween with us , which you missed because you had to take a fruitcake to the hospital, and Kylie being upset you were gone so long to visit a friend... Bahaha still makes me laugh!! It has happened we are building a inlaw suite in the basement of your and Kylies house ( even though she moved this is still very much your house too, you always were a wonderful provider and still am) Madison is such a grown up now at least SHE thinks she is , but your baby girl is very mature for her age and she has a great group of friends, I even think you would like and approve of her boyfriend.. Yep boyfriend.. She still looks like you so very much but although Hayden still looks like Kylie , most of his actions are you !! He told me the other day that some weird things makes him laugh including farts!! Oh my goodness it has to be you in him coming out !! The kids want to go to Disney in Jan over your EOW so disney it is.. Anything to take their mind to happy memories of you.. Kylie is doing a great job of raising the kids but even Maddy will say my dad would have been so much stricter.. She has your and Kylies quiet smile, but can be sooo blonde sometimes. I am sure you are having a great time with Jake, losing him was so hard. Kylie has a great friend in Jamie Shell one of your deputy buddies, He helps her out and listens to her , he always honors you and looks out for this family.. Thanks for sending him . Well Bud I need to go , open house at farm tomorrow and Auction is Nov 1st.. So lots to do. We love you bunches and bunches... Connie

The Punishers Motorcycle group put together a wonderful Memorial Ride yesterday for you, Chad and Brett. It was a great turn out and we went and watched the bikes take off and for the little ceremony that they did prior. We went with your Mom and Dad and then to lunch. They still miss you so much every day, and I know that they get by, but, it is still so hard for the both of them. We went and watched Hayden's baseball game, and he did well. I could see his Mom in him, just like when she played softball, very hard on themselves, when they make a mistake. He is getting so big! Both of them are growing up so much. Maddy don't look like a little girl anymore and she is not.
There is still great support to help keep your memory alive, and we will never let it be forgotten.
We miss you and love you!

The holidays are upon us, and we know that your anniversary date is coming up soon. It is a day that replays that day in 2006 in our minds over and over. We all miss you and love you every day and wish that we had been able to have kept you here with us longer. I always remember our last Christmas Eve at your Grandma's, you and Nick were at the eating bar and I was doing the dishes and we were laughing and talking and Nick asked you if you wanted to help him fillet some fish that he had caught and you said, "No, I cannot do that, I can't even clean up dog poop without gagging." I laughed because of the type of job that you had, and asked how you did that, and you said I don't know, I just can. I cherish that memory of that Christmas Eve and that time that the three of us spent in the kitchen, laughing and talking, it means the world to me. We will all be together again someday, we know, and laugh again.

We had Easter this passed Sunday, and it was at your Mom and Dad's house. They kids are all getting so big, and Maddy thought that she was too old to join in the games for the little ones. She is getting to be be such a young lady!! She is so pretty! Hayden is growing up too.
We miss you and still it seems that you will just walk in the door when we are all gathered for a family event. I wish you would!! Love ya, and think of you each day!!

Deputy Collins,

I didn't know you, but I work for your department now. All your co-workers always talk about you and how much of a great deputy and great person you were. Actually, we were just talking about you, right before I left roll call this afternoon. It's obvious that you were loved around the office. RIP brother, we've got it from here.
