We were all 10-8 tonight when the BOL came over our radio and CAD's. That is the worst feeling in the world and rest assured we all gave a moment of silence in honor of Officer Stevens.

I am so sorry for your loss and wish you comfort during this time of grief.

YESTERDAY IS HISTORY, TOMORROW IS A MYSTERY AND TODAY IS A GIFT.

OFFICER STEVENS, YOU REST IN PEACE MY FRIEND. I SALUTE YOU! MY PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU, YOUR FAMILY, FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES. I THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE. YOU DID NOT LOSE YOUR LIFE, YOU GAVE IT IN SERVICE TO OTHERS. A TRUE HERO INDEED.

TO THOSE CLOSE TO THIS HERO, PLEASE TAKE COMFORT IN KNOWING THAT I, ALONG WITH MANY OTHERS ACROSS THIS LAND, GRIEVE WITH YOU. MAY GOD BLESS YOU.

ONCE AGAIN, THIS PROVES THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A "ROUTINE" TRAFFIC STOP. I BELIEVE ALL STOPS SHOULD BE TREATED LIKE A FELONY STOP, UNTIL THE OFFICER FEELS THERE IS NO DANGER.

TO EVERY LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER, I URGE YOU TO BE CAREFUL OUT THERE! I PRAY IT IS SO.

JIM SWEENEY
A FRIEND TO ALL PEACE OFFICERS

And if I go,
While you are still here....
Know that I live on,Vibrating to a different measure
-behind a thin veil you cannot see through.
You will not see me, so you must have faith.
I wait for the time when we can be together again,
-both aware of each other,
Until then, live life to the fullest,
and when you need me
Just whisper my name in your heart
............I will be there

They are still looking for the man who did this. Witnesses said that officer Stevens was very cordial and greeted the guy. One can only guess what would make someone take advantage of a good man like Officer Stevens. I didn't know Andy Stevens, but I still am feeling this.

The old Eddy Arnold song says it best; "Somebody killed a policeman today, and a part of America died."
My son is an officer in the Hayward office and my wife and I both fear for his safety and swell with pride that we raised a son who is willing to serve.
To the friends and family of Officer Stevens; may you always remember with comfort that "no greater love has he than he that would lay down his life for his friends. My wife and I pray daily for all who serve their country.
