There is a line that protects us from harm in all we do whether day or night.

There is a line no one can penetrate and no one can alleviate.

There is a line made of those who choose to follow a calling many do not hear and still more do not comprehend.

They choose to walk the path of fear, hate, and mistrust taken by so few but marked by so many.

When one leaves this line, they leave a legacy, but the line does not break, for those who remain must still protect.

There may be emptiness, a loss, or sadness, but never a hole, not in this line.

This line holds the ghosts of the souls who have gone, and the souls of the ghosts who will be The Thin Blue Line.

The Thin Blue Line is stretched a little thinner with the passing of Officer Kay Rogers. May she rest in peace at the right hand of the Father and watch over us until we meet again.

What a terrible tragedy for Officer Roger's family, friends, and colleagues to lose the first female motor officer who then became the first female line-of-duty death for this department. I can only imagine her pride and joy performing this duty every day. Godspeed Kay. You all are in my prayers.

ITS SOUNDS LIKE THUNDER FAR AWAY...
It sounds like thunder far away, but the skies are blue and bright...
And soon they crest the hill nearby, and ride into our sight.
They shake the ground with powerful sound, and they make some hearts beat fast...
They look so proud and noble, like Knights come from the past.

Side by side, they always ride, and seem to move as one...
From early in the morning light, to the setting of the sun.
And children point and wave to them, from cars that pass them by...
And young ones ask their parents, why the men have mirrors for eyes.

They ride the roads, and fight for good, and defend small ones like you...
They ask to ride, and do with pride, and sometimes they are few.
Like men of steel, on Silver Wings, they sparkle in the light...
then with a roar and rumble, they ride out of our sight.

Sometimes when one has fallen, never to ride again...
You can hear the others calling, like thunder on the wind.

I am so impressed by all the reflections left by people and officers from across the country. Today we had the memorial service in Murfreesboro for Kay. She touched so many lives. She did it in a quiet and unassuming way. The way she did this is truly a gift from God. I had the honor to be the commander of the motor unit at Murfreesboro while she served. I know first hand of her committment and determination to be a good officer and also a good motor officer. I know she left this earth doing what she had dedicated herself to doing - helping others and being a motor officer. I pray that her blood family, her police family, and, most of all, her motor officer family, will be comforted knowing that she is in God's presence now. She is smiling down and saying to all of us, "Let not your hearts be troubled, know that I am with our Heavenly Father and watching over all of you now." God bless and comfort those of us left behind that miss her. Let us honor her memory by our actions everyday.

Kay. This is so hard. I remember the times we worked together when I worked over at MTSU,all those TSSAA games and football games. I haven't talked to ya a whole lot since I left there. I will always remember the times that we would pick on Misty just to aggravate her. You always had a way to make me laugh. You were a great person. This has been hard on all of us. Misty and her girls miss you a lot. Thank you for your dedication. Your family is in my prayers. Rest Easy and God Speed. Please help keep watch on the rest of us, especially MPD Motors.

To the honorable Kay Rogers and her family,

That dreadful night that I heard the call come over the radio that an officer was down and involved in a motorcycle versus automobile, my heart fell into my stomach. When I saw you come through our ambulance doors, I nearly fainted but had to maintain my composure because I knew you needed me then. I feel that we, as an ER team let you down. We always feel responsible in some way when we cannot help one of our collegues. I remember about a week and a half ago, you were working an MVC in the ED and we were discussing the weather and riding our bikes. I told you, how could you be riding in this freezing weather? I said the only reason I am not riding is because I did not have a good enough jacket to keep me warm, and you responded with a smile, "Wuss". I today still laugh at that. I am truely sorry that God decided to take you away from us. So as my way of saying thank you, I started a Kay Frances Rogers Memorial Fund that I plan to give every penny to your family when all have donated. I have made several attempts to get the media involved and have had minimal success, so I again feel that I have let you down. Maybe God will bless us in this venture. I let all of the media know that anyone can make a donation in your name at any local First TN Bank. We will see what happens. Kay, may you always keep that smile that only you showed to a select few, thanks for the memories that I have even if we knew each other briefly through work, and mostly thank you for doing you job day in and out to keep not only me and my family safe, but for all of the individuals' in Rutherford County. I am telling you, "THANK YOU!". I know that all of us, the public servants, do not here those two simple words enough. To the Rogers family and friends, I am truely sorry for your loss, by establishing this memorial fund, God told me in my dreams that was one simple gesture I could do to show my gratitude to your entire family and to Kay. I know that her children (nieces and nephews) are going to miss her tremendously. Just let them know that Kay will always be there in their hearts and always watching over them. I feel that strongly, and never loose faith because in the end that is all we truely have to look forward to in the end ... Heaven. God Bless all of you.
