Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Daniel Howard Golden

It has been a while since i visited this website. Everytime i come here i get cold chills in my body. It hurts me to think that someone would be so selfish to take someone else's life for something so little. You are a great person and a great Police Officer. I had never seen so many police cars than the day of your funeral. There were cars coming from everywhere. Driving down the road, all you saw were flashling lights. The Huntsville Police Department and the Thin Blue Line lost an excellent Police Officer on that Monday. May you forever be peaceful and patrol heaven with the same dedication that you did here in Huntsville. God Bless Daniel. I will never forget you.

I did not know officer Golden but I knew others that did and they spoke very highly of him. I also know the officer first on the scene and he said he could not believe we lost one of the best. May God Bless his soul.

Daniel, I still pray for you're family everyday. Your mom and dad raised you and David to be kind, loving, giving, and selfless. It is so sad to see the pain in their eyes. I know you, Sterling, and Jesus are going to help them keep going. I want your family to know we are still thinking and praying for them every single day. You will never be forgotten. YOU ARE SO MISSED!

Just before Christmas, a few Officers and I were 10-65ing in the Cowboys parking lot on Winchester RD. Your brother approached us and asked if he could buy us a drink. We graciously declined to offer, but very much appreciated it. Your brother said your family was doing ok, considering the circumstances. We offered our help in any way, shape, or form, as we always had. We are continuing to take care of them, and remember them in our prayers. I want you to know that I, along with many other Officers in our department, carry a remembrance card of you with us every day. Not only as a remembrance to you, but as a reminder of how short life really is. Our job is a tough one, and when our time comes, we will stand beside you, and patrol the streets of heaven, together.

I rememeber going on ride alongs as a civilian with Lawson and observing the officers of the west precinct perform their duties. I remember watching you and the 40 squad guys answer calls and 10-65 with each other. You always had a smile on your face and a good joke. I am now assigned to the West Precinct as an HPD Officer and every day I see your memorial in roll call and think about your sacrafice. I am proud to serve under the same precinct as were I first fell in love with Law Enforcement by watching you perform your duty. Thank you for always treating me with respect and for the laughs. While on duty, I remember you and it makes be think about my officer safety and the safety of my fellow officers. You will always be in my prayers. Until we meet again... May you rest in peace brother.

I can't imagine how hard the Holiday season is for your family. I grew up in Huntsville before moving to GA to be an officer. I aways looked up to the Huntsville officers I ran across. My family still lives in Huntsville and I'm often there to visit. Thank you for the job you did so well protecting them while I am away. Rest in peace brother...gone but not forgotten.

CHRISTMAS IN HEVAN

I see the countless Christmas trees around the world below, with tiny lights like heaven's stars reflecting in the snow.

The sight is so spectacular please wipe away that tear, for I'm spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.

I hear the many Christmas songs that people hold so dear, but the sound of music can't compare with the Christmas choir up here.

I have no words to tell you of the joy their voices bring, for it is beyond description to hear the angles sing.

I know how much you miss me, I see the pain inside your heart, but please don't shed another tear, for I'm spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.

I can't tell you of the spledor or the peace here in this place, can you just imagine Christmas with our Savior face to face.

I'll ask him to lift your spirit as I tell him of your love, so then pray for one another as you lift your eyes above.

Please let your hearts be joyful and let your spirit sing, for I'm spending Christmas in Heaven, and I'm walking with the King.

Daniel:
Please know that you will never be forgotten. We continue to pray for your family during this very difficult time. The only place better off since your untimely death is Heaven. Rest in Peace Brother.

Kelso,
I am sitting here thinking of how Christmas is going to go with my family and I am also thinking of you, Donessa, and the kids, your parents and Tracey. What pain they must be in right now. Hopefully they can take comfort in the fact that you are sharing your first Christmas with Sterling in an long time, as well as with our Lord Jesus Himself. I will pray for all of you during this holiday season. I will be glad when the trial takes place and justice is served.

Kelso words can't express the loss we feel,we see your picture everyday in roll call and it reminds of the fun we shared. We still ask ourselves why and wish you were here with us. You were an outstaning officer but an even better person and you made us all better by knowing you. Thanks for what you gave to us all while you were here and what we continue to take from you everyday that you are not. R.I.P.

Officer Golden-
I never had the opportunity to meet you. After reading just a few of these reflections, there is no question what kind of man you were. My oldest son is a deputy sheriff with the Madison County Sheriff's Dept. and he told me that Officer Golden was a fine young man who loved every minute of his job.
Officer Golden, you have completed your job. You payed the ultimate sacrifice and will never be forgotten.
I was in law enforcement for 35 years and I had the pleasure of wearing a badge with the Huntsville Police Dept.
Officer Golden, I only wish I had the opportunity of meeting you and your family. God bless you and your family.

On behalf of my family I would like to say How sorry I am. I view this web page daily and am saddened at how many officers die in the line of duty each year. It seems so senseless. To the family of Officer Golden I will pray every day that it gets easier and that you find comfort in the memory of him. I know there aren't any words to comfort you. Thank you Officer Golden for your sacrifice. Take care of my brother. May he make you laugh every day.

I returned back home to Huntsville early in 2004, after having lost my fiance' James Crump in Fayette AL. I know alot of police officers in HPD that helped me through the ordeal. There were times I was blubbering like a little helpless puppy and I would come upon an HPD officer, but I would go blank trying to talk about how I felt yet they listened wholeheartedly. I have to give these HPD officers alot of the credit for helping me to get through my hard times as a survivor. I wanted to say how proud I am of you guys!
There are no words to describe all the emotions, the rollercoaster of feelings from moment to moment from day to day that people go through when something like this happens. I really cannot talk, I'm just trying to share something if I can here. This situation has made me angry myself. I cannot help it. To come home to Huntsville and to have this to happen, and to see the hurt and the pain all over again, and to have an idea of what is feels like makes my gut turn inside out. I don't know what else to say. I have asked for prayers from Fayette. The death penalty was just passed there. I'm out of words...

I am praying for you all too.

God Bless the family and HPD and please stay as strong and as focused as you can.

Kelso-

We rode for you yesterday. Raising close to $2000 to put up a memorial honoring you and all are fallen brothers with HPD. The memorial will be put at PSC.

Your Momma was there, she's doing the best she can, trying to be strong. She looked great!

We miss you, brother.

We heard details of your last minutes with us today. No matter what was said we know based on what we saw you went down fighting. We also know your 9mm Beretta failed you in the midst of your fight regardless of all the forensic evidence explaining away why the weapons slide locked back before you could finish your clip.Regardless of the nasty reflection someone left stating your family was left out you know how much your hpd family is comforting your mom, dad, and brother and how appreciative they are of us. Your incident has caused many of us to take care of one another with more intensity than before.Your memory will be with us forever.

Daniel my friend
Not one day went by without a smile on your face. When you would see me or come into my office the first words you would say was “Hey Ice Man”. We could tell that your blood was in fact blue. You were one of the ones that could be trusted to watch out for your fellow officers. Yes I was one of many at the scene knowing that you were going home. My heart broke like every one that knew you. I even ask why, why not one of us older officers who have lived our dreams. Why such a young, happy man who was just starting out. Daniel you will be missed by us all, I was hard on us all but your close friends pulled together and made it through. We know you are home and in a better place I have added a passage from Romans 13.

Romans 13
Submission to the Authorities
13:1 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, 4 for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God's wrath but also for the sake of conscience. 6 For the same reason you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing. 7 Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.

From the heart of Kathy Morris Aunt of Police Officer Daniel H. Golden. He sure had the right last name Golden becauce he was one big country hunk of Gold. A young man and a Police Officer willing to help anybody and everybody no matter the cost "His Life". God must have really had a special job in mind when he took my nephew. I can see the smile on his face as he would say to me "there's that mean old woman" Oh you know I don't mean that I love you Aunt Cat. "Mean old woman" this is the name that officer Golden and his older brother David gave me. I can hear him saying those words to me now. Daniel you will always be in my heart. I Love You. Here is a poem I wrote the night we layed Daniel to rest.

OH, DANIEL BOY
OH, DANIEL BOY
WHERE ART THOU DANIEL BOY
WE LOOK TO THE EAST
WE LOOK TO THE WEST
WE LOOK TO HEAVEN FOR THE BEST
WE SEE A TWINKLE IN YOUR EYE
AND YOU SAY I AM AT REST
SO MOM, DAD, BIG BROTHER, AND FRIENDS
YOUR WORRIES ARE OVER FOR NOW
BECAUSE I AM WITH THE BEST
SO PLEASE LET ME REST.

Officer Daniel H. Golden Rest in peace.
I LOVE YOU
