I never had the chance to meet Officer Cantrell but I train with two Sapulpa K9 Officers every Tuesday evening. I feel that we all are very close to one another. I have seen what an impact Officer Cantrell has had on these two Officers and I feel their pain. I have heard many great things about Officer Cantrell and it makes me proud that I get to work with his partners. Thank God for Officer Cantrell's family and keep them strong. Your terrible loss is heavens wonderful gain. God Bless you and the Sapulap Police Department.

Oh,Larry! How you are missed!! Laudreanna and I will never be the same after you have touched our lives. You are the forever the imprint others must fit into.Watch over us,Larry. Laudreanna and I love you. Charles, Laudreanna misses her Poppi and the "Turn 'em out!" game when you were her horse. Keep protecting us all, guys. You're excellent at that.

My fiancé, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. Dennis was a Deputy Sheriff with the Davis County Sheriff's Office in SE Iowa. Dennis died doing a job he loved, just as I'm sure Larry did. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Larry be the last to die this way.

Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Officer Cantrell's family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out to you all. No one can truly understand the pain of our loss until they've walked in our shoes. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through these tough times, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Just know that my thoughts are with you and that you are not alone in your "journey". Should you ever need anything please do not hesitate to contact me. (Dennis' department will also always know how to reach me.)

As a fallen officer "survivor" and a friend, please accept my condolences on behalf of myself and the McElderry family. I never got the opportunity to know Larry but, I am certain he was well respected and well loved. Larry will live on in the hearts of all the lives he touched. You were all lucky to have had him be a part of your lives, even for a short time. I pray that Larry will continue to watch over us all as only he can.

Thank you Officer Cantrell for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please say "hello" to my fiancé Dennis for me.

Wishing you and all those who loved you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

A POLICE OFFICER'S PRAYER

Lord I ask for courage

Courage to face and
Conquer my own fears...

Courage to take me
Where others will not go...

I ask for strength

Strength of body to protect others
And strength of spirit to lead others...

I ask for dedication

Dedication to my job, to do it well
Dedication to my community
To keep it safe...

Give me Lord, concern
For others who trust me
And compassion for those who need me...

And please Lord

Through it all
Be at my side...

As a combat veteran serving in the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army, Charles was no stranger to being in harms way. For anyone who knew Charles understood how Larry became such a fine man.

After Larry's dedicated service in the United States Navy, he continued to serve as a police officer. I am so proud to call him my brother officer, as we have had many hours of "shop talk". Though even before this Larry was a good friend. This too, was a direct reflection of Charles.

You are both loved and will be deeply missed

To the hero's!

Exerpt from "Scottish Soldier"

He called his piper, his trusty piper
And bade him sound a lay... a pibroch sad to play
Upon a hillside, a Scottish hillside

And so this soldier, this Scottish soldier
Will wander far no more and soldier far no more
And on a hillside, a Scottish hillside
You'll see a piper play his soldier home.
He'd seen the glory, he'd told his story
Of battles glorious and deeds victorious
The bugles cease now, he is at peace now.

Your Piper will always be on your hill piping you home Larry

Please know that you are not alone. I am a former resident of Sapulpa, my husband a detective in Daytona Beach, and we just lost his father in the line of duty 11/13/2004. Our prayers will remain over you and your entire family. Your loss is double, and still senseless. But, know that Officer Cantrell died in full honor of doing his job, and what he loved. His father must have been so proud.
God be with you all.

My heart goes out to all of Larry's family, friends and fellow officers. I haven't been close to Larry in years and knowing how sad I am, I know your grief is overwhelming.
Larry, I'm so proud that you served our country and became a police officer just as you'd always planned and that you obviously stayed the sweet, friendly, fun, honorable and loving person you always were. I have so many sweet, fun and wonderful memories of you. You always had and always will have a special place in my heart. It was an honor to have known and loved you. We'll meet again. Melissa

TO: The family; loved ones; friends and department members: A POLICE OFFICER’S PRAYER:--- O, gentle Lord ! Keep the day/night watch with me. As I begin my tour of duty, I ask your protection from all mental, physical and spiritual harm. Sustain me with the knowledge that I am doing your work, endeavoring to keep peace among your people. Help me to be just as I enforce the law without prejudice or favor to anyone. May I be courageous but not reckless in carrying out my duties. Let me respond to all calls with haste realizing that so many are dependent upon me for life and safety. Support me with your consoling power when I am tempted to think no one really cares and that I am taken for granted. Sustain in me the conviction that so many thousands do care and are grateful for my presence. Grant that I may be loyal to my partner and my fellow officers, and that I may back them up effectively when called upon for assistance. Lord, I ask that I may return safely, after my tour of duty, to my loved ones and those who love me. I pray that I may be a good and honorable police officer; and after my tour of duty is over here on earth, may I enjoy the peace and happiness of heaven that you have promised to those who serve you well. AMEN. *** REST IN PEACE ***
