Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Scot Andrew Beyerstedt

Officer Beyerstedt.
Rest in peace, and keep watching our backs from above. My prayers go out to your family and the brothers and sisters at the Mattawan Police Department.

I wish you well Warrior BlueDog. I will never forget you brother. You were among my favorite "new kids" to train in the academy and were an example for your peers. I saw myself in you with your unyielding drive to succeed. God speed my friend you will be missed and never forgotten. St. Michael, patron saint of Law Enforcement has an easier job with you at the gate. See you on the high ground!

You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

On behalf of the Sterling Heights Police Department, I wish to extend heartfelt sypathies to the families of Officer Beyerstedt, both his immediate family and his police family. Having lost one of our own a little over a year ago, we know that no words will lessen your pain. Our prayers however may keep you moving forward. A special prayer will be said for Scot's FTO...for he will, without a doubt be one of many to carry on Scot's legacy.

Today we SALUTE Officer Beyerstedt...Forever we will remember him.

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

Bless you, son. You were taken much too early, just for doing what you chose to do to protect those that cannot protect themselves. You're a true American hero.

It hurts everyone one of us when we hear of the loss of another brother or sister. Rest in peace, my friend. I hope to have the honor of meeting you upon my passing.

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.

Tonight, July 26, 2005 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Police Officer Scot Beyerstedt who died in the line of duty just hours ago.

When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.

Officer Beyerstedt's sacrifice will never be forgotten.
