I know a lad who yesterday went running up the hill
I would he could again today
But oh he never will
The lad that climbed the hill that day
Has climbed another hill
from which he can not come away
And oh he never will.

Kevin,

It still seems a horrible nightmare that you're gone. I think of you everyday, when I look at my son, Christopher Kevin. I strive each day to be the man you were, and raise my son to be like his Uncle Kevin (minus the minitruck in high school & "chain link" injury).

I'm writing now because I got a memorial tattoo, like so many others have for you and Joe. Mine is finally done, and it looks spectacular. I got the design from your memorial at the Sacramento Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial. All that's well and fine, but the important part is the flames in the desingn, signifying "Ring of Fire," one of our many must play songs on Monday nights at Player's. I have nothing but great memories with you brother, and miss you like words can't relate. I knew someday I'd lose a friend, a partner, in the line of duty, but it wasn't supposed to be you, my best friend.

Like everyone in our career, I hope to make it home to my family every day. If I ever don't, I pray I can leave a legacy like you, and go out "having the best job in the world," as you described flying with Joe. If that day ever comes, I'll see you in Heaven, and the first round of Washington apples is on me.

I love you buddy,
Dave

HIGH FLIGHT

By John G. Magee, Jr.

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter - silvered wings;

Sunward I have climbed and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung.

High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through the footless halls of air.

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew.

And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN!

Fly,fly do not fear. Don't waste a breath, don't shed a tear. Your heart is pure, your soul is free, be on your way don't wait for me. Above the universe you'll climb, on beyond the hands of time. The moon will rise the sun will set, but I will not forget.
I love you, Mom

May God grant comfort and peace to those who knew and loved you on this day. It is obvious that many remember you fondly and that your family and friends have many shoulders to share their burdens with here on earth.

One year ago today, you shed your earthly wings to take on God's duties in heaven as one of his blue angels. Rest in peace, sir. Job well done.

To Kevin, Your reminders of friendship come day by day. Sometimes it’s Star, sometimes its pizza and beer, sometimes it’s the missing wingman. You are a regular guy who conducted himself with honor, dignity and humility. I am honored to have been a friend amongst your many. You are not forgotten. Steve

To Kevin, friends and family,

I went to middle school with him and knew Kevin from the Citrus Heights area. I grew up in Sacramento County Sheriff's Office area and wanted to be a police officer since I was a in grade school. I am now a deputy sheriff up in Oregon for the last three years. Kevin and I grew up in the Citrus Heights area and he was blessed to patrol and protect the same people from our neighborhood. I am proud to say that I knew Kevin and we chose the same way of life. I am proud to serve in the same profession that Kevin gave his life for. God bless Kevin for the sacrifice in upholding the laws and the way of life that we have all been blessed with.

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they are the true sons of god".

My prayers are with you and your family, from yours brothers and sisters in law enforcement.

To Deputy Sheriff Blount: I wanted to extend my sincerest condolences to your family and friends and to your law enforcment family of the Sacramento County Sheriff's Dept. What a tragic accident that took two of your department's finest and seriously wounded another. Reading your reflections, I was struck by several things. First, you started out your career in your early twenties and achieved your goal as an aero officer. Your family must have been so proud of all your achievments. Second, your passion for life as evidenced by the reflections about your love of a good party. Third, the respect you garnered from other agencies you helped such as the Sacramento Police Dept. Benjamin Disrali said that no one should die with their music in them. Your song was heard loud and clear and still rings out. I have heard that your wounded collegue is still struggling, and my prayers go out to him and his family as well as yours and Officer Kievernagel's family. This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service you gave to your community and for the supreme sacrifice you and your family made in the line of duty. You will never be forgotten and will always be honored and remembered. Pride is forever and we are proud of you.

To the family and friends of Deputy Sheriff Blount, my deepest sympathies.

Working at the hospital where the third officer was (and still is) being treated, I come in contact with officers daily. What these three men took on for the their communities was a tremendous task that few dare to even try.

May Officer Blount rest in peace and be remembered with love and affection. May his spirit watch over all who knew him.

With appreciation...Rest in Peace.

Kathy Blount and Family,

I still have not realized the finality of losing Kevin. I cannot imagine your grief and sorrow but hope that all the thoughts of those who care for you can help you through each day.

I remember vividly when Kevin and I were 17 and first met. We had such good times together. And although he was only two months older, he always felt like a big brother to me - protecting and advising. As age caught up to us, he never changed. He always protected and always guided. He truly is a hero on so many levels.

Words cannot describe how sorry I am for his loss and for your pain.
