Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Kevin Patrick Blount

Here it is two whole years.....& today at your place of rest I still couldn't fight the tears. It still hurts knowing the only positive male influence that I've had in my life has left this earth forever. My "big brother," the big brother I wish I had, if only I could make you proud and be half the man/person/friend you were to me. Kevin, I made a promise to you, that I would follow in your steps.......I WILL become what I promised to be. Continue to keep providing me with the strength to live as I promised I would. Guide me in the right direction......

I love always,
Little Jimmy Walker

On the 2nd anniversary of Deputy Blount's death, we honored his service in our patrol briefing by reading his entry from ODMP. Each day, we honor one fallen officer on the anniversary of their death so as to keep them in our thoughts, and also to remind us of the dangers inherent in our job. Deputy Blount is not forgotten.

It's been two years since we lost you, but the pain we feel is as if it happened yesterday. Kevin, you touched so many lives. You should see all the beautiful flowers and tributes people left you at the cemetery, it's overwhelming. We're all going out to the memorial at the crash site and then to Player's tonight. We will be celebrating your life. I love you Son. Love, Mom

I know a lad who yesterday went running up the hill
I would he could again today
But oh he never will
The lad that climbed the hill that day
Has climbed another hill
from which he can not come away
And oh he never will.

Kevin,

It still seems a horrible nightmare that you're gone. I think of you everyday, when I look at my son, Christopher Kevin. I strive each day to be the man you were, and raise my son to be like his Uncle Kevin (minus the minitruck in high school & "chain link" injury).

I'm writing now because I got a memorial tattoo, like so many others have for you and Joe. Mine is finally done, and it looks spectacular. I got the design from your memorial at the Sacramento Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial. All that's well and fine, but the important part is the flames in the desingn, signifying "Ring of Fire," one of our many must play songs on Monday nights at Player's. I have nothing but great memories with you brother, and miss you like words can't relate. I knew someday I'd lose a friend, a partner, in the line of duty, but it wasn't supposed to be you, my best friend.

Like everyone in our career, I hope to make it home to my family every day. If I ever don't, I pray I can leave a legacy like you, and go out "having the best job in the world," as you described flying with Joe. If that day ever comes, I'll see you in Heaven, and the first round of Washington apples is on me.

I love you buddy,
Dave

HIGH FLIGHT

By John G. Magee, Jr.

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter - silvered wings;

Sunward I have climbed and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung.

High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through the footless halls of air.

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew.

And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN!

Police Officer

Fly,fly do not fear. Don't waste a breath, don't shed a tear. Your heart is pure, your soul is free, be on your way don't wait for me. Above the universe you'll climb, on beyond the hands of time. The moon will rise the sun will set, but I will not forget.
I love you, Mom

May God grant comfort and peace to those who knew and loved you on this day. It is obvious that many remember you fondly and that your family and friends have many shoulders to share their burdens with here on earth.

One year ago today, you shed your earthly wings to take on God's duties in heaven as one of his blue angels. Rest in peace, sir. Job well done.

To Kevin, Your reminders of friendship come day by day. Sometimes it’s Star, sometimes its pizza and beer, sometimes it’s the missing wingman. You are a regular guy who conducted himself with honor, dignity and humility. I am honored to have been a friend amongst your many. You are not forgotten. Steve

To Kevin Blount and his loved ones:

On this the eighth month after your tragic death, please know that your memory is honored and revered today.

My heart is still with your family and I look forward to meeting them in Sacramento and/or D.C. You’re all in our thoughts and our prayers.

Kevin, you rescued us, saved our possessions, our lives and our families. You are one of the rare heroes among us. You were always there for us in the most traumatic moments of our lives. No matter when we called, we just expected that you would come and do whatever it took to help us, and you always met our expectations. Your selflessness and dedication are awe-inspiring.

This world, this country, your community truly are better places because of you. To have lost you is a great tragedy, an irreplaceable, immeasurable loss for society. We are grateful for and to you, and honor you for all you did for us day in and day out whether you received a word of thanks or praise.

Rest in Peace, Deputy Kevin Blount. I am so humbled by your valor and courage.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Kevin gave to his community and the citizens of Califonia, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on July 13, 2005.

To Kevin, friends and family,

I went to middle school with him and knew Kevin from the Citrus Heights area. I grew up in Sacramento County Sheriff's Office area and wanted to be a police officer since I was a in grade school. I am now a deputy sheriff up in Oregon for the last three years. Kevin and I grew up in the Citrus Heights area and he was blessed to patrol and protect the same people from our neighborhood. I am proud to say that I knew Kevin and we chose the same way of life. I am proud to serve in the same profession that Kevin gave his life for. God bless Kevin for the sacrifice in upholding the laws and the way of life that we have all been blessed with.

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they are the true sons of god".

My prayers are with you and your family, from yours brothers and sisters in law enforcement.
