Vern was a wonderful man that I miss so much already. With just one smile he could brighten your day. It doesn't even seem real that I'm never going to see him again. It was an honor and a privilege to have known him and to work with him. He will be missed every day. Thank you Vern.

We have murders all the time and sadly we just accept them like you would filling your tank with gas, but when someone shoots an officer, it really sinks in as to how precious and fragile our lives really are...
I wish to give my deepest regrets to Officer Brann's family.

Vern, what I want to remember is the many good times we had together. I was telling my wife the other day about how you would get off work at the hospital and come over and ride with us when I was a paramedic. One night we got in a water fight with the other crew, and we blew the TV up, and we drove all over town trying to find tubes to fix the TV before the boss came in. Or how you would peek around the corner with that silly smile, and we would say I wonder what Vern's up to ? I will truely miss you brother. I will always be there for Melanie and the girls if they need anything.

It was with great pleasure that I got to know you 20 yrs ago, I was a young dispatcher, and you worked in the city jail. It was with pride and admiration that I watched you join the force a short time later. For the last 20 years, when I saw you in the community, you always took time to shake my hand, compliment my daughter on how she had grown and share stories of your two beautiful daughters.
You were always quick with a warm smile and "real" in such a way, that everyone loved to be around you. You truly gave everything you could to the community you lived in, and the people you believed in. We are all so blessed to have known you and been touched by your spirit. May we all find the strength to carry on and ask God for the grace to do it in the same fashion as you did. We will all miss you, may you rest in peace. My family's prayers are with your family now, Melanie, know that the community is here for you. BCPD and all area officers in the surrounding villages, towns and the county please come together now and take care of each other, know that the community is eternally grateful for all you do, and knows the sacrifice you make each day for each and every one of us. Thank you one and all, and especially, thank you LaVern, God Bless

Our hearts go out to the family of officer Brann. It is sad when one of city's finest is gunned down trying to protect us. I beleive that this is where Michigan needs the death penalty. May he rest in peace.
