Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Detective LaVern Steven Brann

Thank you LaVern for everything you have done for me. You were a great teacher and friend. Even after my training phase with you was over, you were never too busy to take the time to help me when I wasn't sure what to do. You were always a pleasure to be around. I don't remember any conversation that we had where we didn't laugh or at least smile sometime during it. I will truly miss you and your smile.

Battle Creek P.D.

Sincerest sympathy to Det Brann's family, may God bless and comfort you all. To you I offer the following words by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe:
"Life is the childhood of our immortality."

And condolences also to Lavern's work family, and the deputies and staff across the street at the Calhoun County Sheriff's Dept, from your federal comrades. Another selfless soul's name will be inscribed on the hallowed walls of the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial. All gave some, Some gave all. Let us NEVER forget.

When Tomorrow Starts Without Me

When tomorrow starts without me and I’m not there to see,
If the sun should rise and find your eyes all filled with tears for me.
I wish so much you wouldn’t cry the way you did today,
While thinking of the many things we didn’t get to say.
I know how much you love me as much as I love you,
And each time that you think of me I know you’ll miss me too.

But when tomorrow starts without me please try to understand,
That an angel came and called my name and took me by the hand.
He said my place was ready in heaven far above,
And that I’d have to leave behind all those I dearly love.
But as I turn to walk away a tear fell from my eye,
For all my life I’d always thought I didn’t want to die.
I had so much to live for so much yet to do,
It seemed almost impossible that I was leaving you.

I thought of all the yesterdays, the good ones and the bad,
I thought to all the love we shared and all the fun we had.
If I could relive yesterday just even for a while,
I’d say goodbye and kiss you and maybe see you smile.
But then I fully realized that this could never be,
For emptiness and memories would take the place of me.
And when I though of worldly things I might miss come tomorrow,
I thought of you and when I did my heart was filled with sorrow.

But when I walked through heaven’s gate I felt so much at home,
When God looked down and smiled at me from His great golden throne.
He said, “This is eternity and all I’ve promised you,
Today for life on earth is past but here it starts anew.
I promise no tomorrow but today will always last,
And since each day’s the same day, there’s no longing for the past.
But you have been so faithful, so trusting, and so true,
Though there were some times you did some things you knew you shouldn’t do.
But you have been forgiven and now at last your free,
So won’t you take my hand and share your eternity with me.”

So when tomorrow starts without me don’t think were far apart,
For every time you think of me just know, I’m right here, in your heart.

TO THE FAMILY OF DETECTIVE BRANN...YOU ARE IN OUR PRAYERS!

I am writing this on behalf of my 2 daughters, who were victims of a sexual assault that Detective Brann was assigned to.
My heart goes out to your family. I know that for a short time, you touched our hearts, and you protected my children. You are a hero to them, as well as hundreds of others. Your kindness showed them that not everyone was bad, that many could be trusted. You made a difference in our families life, and you changed us forever...thank you for your kindness, your kind words, your protection, and for being a voice for my daughters when they didn't have their own!

His friendship was one of the reasons I chose to return to the Battle Creek area. I'm just sorry I didn't have the chance to tell him that. I miss you Vern, I always will.
