Brother Young,

May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
And the rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Detective D. Young. My deepest condolences to his loved ones. It always hurts to lose a fellow Officer, but it especially hurts when it's in such close proximity. Rest In Peace Donald, we'll shag the next call.

To the family and friends of Detective Donald Young and his fellow officers in the Denver Police Department:

On behalf of our entire family, we wish to extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Detective Young was so brutally murdered. His heroism, valor and bravery will be forever remembered.

In reading the reflections about Donald, it is obvious he was a man of honor and a man devoted to his family.
His peers respected him and so many have fond memories of their times together. Donald will never be forgotten by those who cared about him, nor will he be forgotten by those who honor his courgage and dedication to his job, even if they didn't know him personally.

May you be comforted by the support and caring of your law enforcement family, and other police survivors. We grieve for you and with you. Our family lost our beloved Larry Lasater when he was fatally shot this past April during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers, so we know the anquish you are experiencing. Please know that the brotherhood and sisterhood of law enforcement will be by your side on each step of the journey ahead of you.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the many years of service Detective Young gave to his community and the citizens of Colorado, and the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on May 8, 2005 when he gave his life in the line of duty.

Thank you, Donnie, for being our "soccer dad" and "team trainer" on so many occasions. You will never know the comfort we felt just at your mere presence at the games. Your impact on all of our girls will be felt for their entire lives. Thank you for sharing your heart and feelings with them at every opportunity. You have left such a legacy!
To Kelly: I have cherished our times together - through this hideous tragedy, God has brought us closer. And I want you to know that I would go to the ends of the earth for you and your girls.
To Kourtney: I want you to know that our house is always open to you. If you need to call me in the middle of the night, I'll be there for you. Please continue to express your feelings and anguish to those who love you. We want to help you through this!
To Kelsey: I will always have Rainbow Sherbert, chocolate covered cones, and FRUIT for you! You're my special little angel.

To the family, friends, co-workers and surrounding community of Detective Young,

May you somehow find peace in your lives after yet another terrible, senseless loss of one of our heroes.

How ironic that the coward that stole Don from his family was apprehended on the one year anniversary of us losing Mark in the same cowardly way. The devil that took Mark from us took his own sorry life seven weeks later while the US Marshalls were busting in the door where the creep was hiding in FLA. The only justice there was that he used the gun he had stolen from Mark. I wish it would have been the same for the creep that killed Don.

I hope the conviction will come strong and fast for the crime against Don. The road ahead will be long and hard for all of you.

Stay strong, stay together, and know that you are thought of often. Speak freely of your love for Don to keep his memory alive, especially for his children.

God Speed.

Donnie, who else but you could rally the entire city of Denver and police officers throught the country? Truly, your impact is immeasurable, to those who have known you and those who have been inspired by you. You entered my life almost 20 years ago when you started dating my sister and even though we annoyed each other to no end, she married you anyway. :-) Over time I came to love and cherish you. Your incredible humor, sense of adventure and love of life was your gift to me. Every Christmas (usually Christmas eve), you'd call me with two gift choices for my sister. We'd argue about what she'd like best and in the end we'd agree that yes, you were the boss. I'll be waiting for your call . . . I miss you Donnie. You'll be with us always, Tracy

Donnie-I sit here tonight with tears rolling down my face as I read all the wonderful words that are being spoken about you; I realize I'm not the only one that misses you. I go to bed every night telling you how much I love and miss you. I miss your wonderful smile and the way you could always make me laugh. I know you're with us, looking down and helping to give us strength. You would be so proud of our girls, they are a wonderful reflection of you. May God let me find strength from your spirit until it is my time to join you. I know you'll be waiting for me and we'll ride off in that Harley in the sky. I'll love you forever.

Det Young,
I never had the chance to meet you, but your honor remains. The halls of the stations are alive with the constant memory that you left with so many officers. You have passed the torch to the younger generation of Denver Officers. We shall do our best to live up to the honor and dedication that you displayed with your service. I know that you sit on the right-hand side of the good lord and watch out for all of the brothers that you left behind.

"We shall never forget."

Donald,
I thank you for your ultimate sacrifice and for proudly wearing the uniform. I hope that your family and all those that loved you will be able to find peace and happiness at the end of this long journey they have begun. I rejoice that the man that has done this has been captured. I hope that Mexico returns him to the US for justice without any problems. It was my worst fear the the man that murdered Brandy would make it back to Mexico. Your family has a whole nation to support and love them through this journey. Look Bran up in heaven and tell him we miss him more than anything here on earth and that we will see you all on the other side someday.

One day as the crowds were gathering, Jesus went up the hillside with His disciples and sat down and taught them there.
"Humble men are very fortunate!" He
said, "for the Kingdom of Heaven is
given to them. Those who mourn are fortunate for they shall be comforted.
The meek and lowly are fortunate
for the whole wide world belongs to
them. Happy are those who long to be just and good for they shall be
completely satisfied. Happy are the kind and merciful for they shall be shown mercy. Happy are those whose hearts are pure for they shall
see God. Happy are those who strive for peace for they shall be called Sons of God. Happy are those who are persecuted because they are good and the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. When you are reviled and persecuted and lied about because you are My
followers- WONDERFUL! Be happy
about it. Be glad for a tremendous reward awaits you up in Heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets
were persecuted, too." Matt. 5: 1-12

While I was watching Cops tonight (how appropriate) the announcement came on that the U.S. Marshals caught your killer down in Mexico. Finally a little closure, and the hope that he won't hurt anybody else and will face justice. My prayers are still with your family and all of your brothers and sisters in blue.
