Rest in peace, brother! You have epitomized the meaning of warrior. You set the bar for the way we strive to fight the fight and we can only hope to have your courage in the face of evil. Thank you for the contribution you made to this country and to the law enforcement profession. You are a hero to more than you will ever know.

You have earned your place in Heaven, serving for eternity alongside the finest men & women who have made the supreme sacrifice.

Though words alone will not carry your loved ones through this tragedy, let them find solace in these reflections and in knowing that you are a true warrior of justice. We will keep you and all of those who had the privelege of knowing you in our prayers.

Godspeed!

To the wife,children, and family,
My heart, pain and tears go out to you during this tragedy. I wish I had words to comfort you, but unfortunately I don't. It will be one year since my brother's tragic death and the pain is just as strong as it was the night we rushed to the hospital to only hear that he was gone. My next words may not provide comfort and they may, instead, bring up anger and confusion. I have been able to find some peace in the pride I feel for my brother. He could have chosen not to get out of the car to approach the suspect, but he took pride in his oath to protect the community. Patrolman Thomas Catchings was an honorable man, it appears that he too, took pride in his oath. It's unfortunate that our loved ones paid the ultimate price. You are not alone. Please know that there are many of us throughout the United States who are crying with you. You don't know us but we are with you.

It doesn't take much,
to take someone down.
Just a single bullet, that can bounce around.

A vest or not,
the bullet will find a way.
On any kind of night,
it can take someone away.

The bulletin was heard,
and every officer knew,
the one they called their own
had just left the team in blue.

Everyone knew,
this day could come.
and now everyone is left
feeling helpless and numb.

The killer is in jail,
but how little it eases the pain.
Because a mother and father,
know things will never be the same.

He was one of many
who answered the late night calls,
and now he will be one of many,
who's name is left on Washington walls.

I'm deeply sorry to here about the death of Patrolman Catchings, he died doing what loved to do but he shouldn't have died in that way, just because some 18yr old punk kid who didn't want to go to jail. And even though u were just answering the call as u did some many times it is still a tragic loss for who loved u. My deepest sympathies go out to his family, friends, and fellow co-workers, know that u will never be forgotten and u will be deeply missed. We have lost in the line of duty another hero in blue

R.I.P Patrolman Catchings as u have taken your final 10-42
God Bless

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and fellow officers of Patrolman Catchings.

While no one who wears a badge wants to be put into such a situation, he willingly and selflessly put himself into the line of fire to protect those whom he might not have even known despite the danger. While I did not have the privilege to have known him personally, I am certain that he has found a place in heaven.

Rest in peace my friend; those of us who remain will cover your post on the thin blue line.
