Bryan,
Your family and friends truly honored you yesterday. I feel that I personally knew you by the end of your service. Even though you came from such a large department and Bran a smaller one I can see that truly all cops are really alike in so many ways. It is truly a brotherhood like no other. I know that you and Bran are cruising the great highway together right now. Just to let you in on a secret he too had a nickname...Gump please let Bacon know that we all love him and miss him dearly. You are a true hero and I hope that your family can make it through this journey.

Bryan,

I didn't personally know you, but we have a lot of top-notch bro's in common. I'm certain we would have eventually run into each other. It's obvious from the caliber of the guys who were around you, that you were squared away. Some people "get it," and some don't. It is clear that you "got it." You were dedicated, courageous, loyal to your family, and lived each day to the fullest.

We went to your service today, the 3rd service for a fallen member of our Central Ohio law enforcement family since October... and we know we did you proud. But just like with Deputy Brandy Winfield and Officer Melissa Foster, there was a constant, cold rain. "Tears from above," they say. Appropriate.

This has truly been a terrible loss to all us brothers-in-blue, but you can rest knowing you did it right. You were committed to saving people in the bank and fearless to the end. Rest in peace now man... and watch over the rest of us.

To Officer Bryan Hurst's family, brother and coworkers,
Although I never got to meet Bryan, I have heard a lot about him from his brother, "Kaz" from Toledo who spoke highly of him on all levels. Bryan truly built good friendships, family, a career and life here on earth. You can only imagine what he's building up there - I still would like to meet you one day in Heaven!

Bryan, I first met you when you were a little boy in West Virginia. I know how proud your mother was of you then and how proud you continued to make her and all of your family throughout your life. You accomplished so much and truly left this world a better place because of you having been in it. I know how much you were loved and how much you will be missed. Rest in peace, Bryan.

Bryan - I am thinking of your family today, today is your funeral, it is a rainy, gloomy day, just as it was for my brother-in-law Brandy's funeral. Ohio has lost another outstanding man. Thank you for your service. I hope you have met Brandy, what a funny, loving man. Tell him we said hey and we miss him. I am proud that you were courageous enough to wear that badge everyday. I wish the monster that did this could have seen what stood behind your badge. I pray for Marissa, your baby and all that you left behind. Rest easy.

I cruised the freeways, far and near,
and patrolled the highways long.
I assisted those in need of help,
and tried to right the wrongs.

I knew my job put me at risk,
thus faith came into call;
I never drove without the Lord.
He was with me through it all.

I didn't want to leave you,
but God said that I must go.
So, I held your love inside me,
and let my spirit flow.

Tell my family, and my friends,
that every thing's okay;
Up here a deputy uses wings,
to cruise the Great Highway.

Teach my children to be proud,
and to not live life in fear.
Tell them Daddy's still on watch,
and that I am always near.

And you, dear wife, remember, please
that true love never dies.
What lives today, within the heart,
lives on in Paradise.

I saw the news as my family sat at dinner the other night. I moved from the table to hear the story...and wished I didn't have to! My family sat quietly because they knew it was important to me...but they,too, wished I didn't have to!

I will think of you and your family as I patrol...and hope I can show the same selfless courage as you!

Be at peace, my brother! God Bless this family!
