Again we lost a good brother to the nonsense of the street, my prayers go out to your family and your department. You have walked the beat down here for long enough not it is time to rest my brother, and rest in peace I bid you. Well done and as we continue to fight this battle we know of the price you paid, you wife and children will always remember what you did and stood for. Winder, God bless you brother, you are a true hero and you will not die in vain!!!! I met you when I worked in the southwest, you use to tease me about the Ravens whipping the steelers all the time. I miss you already. May god hold you in his arms now forever.

TO THE FAMILY OF OFFICER WINDER, PLEASE ACCEPT MY DEEPSET CONDOLENCES AND SYMPATHY. IF THERE WERE ANY WORDS TO EASE YOUR PAIN, I WOULD SAY THEM TO YOU, BUT IAM AWARE THAT THERE ARE NO WORDS TO EASE YOUR PAIN AT THIS POINT. ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT BRIAN IS WITH A HIGHER POWER SMILING DOWN ON YOU AS YOU ARE READING THIS RIGHT NOW. HE IS WITH THE ULTIMATE POWER NOW RESTING IN PEACE. I TOO AM A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER, SO I UNDERSTAND THE DAILY RISK THAT WE TAKE. ONLY TO SIT AND HOPE THAT THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE WE HOPE WILL NEVER COME, BUT IF IT DID, WE WILL BE READY, AND BROTHER WINDER DID GIVE US ALL HE HAD. IN READNG THIS HORRIBLE ACT, I WISH I COULD HAVE THE ATTENTION OF ALL OF THE PERPS AND CRIMINALS OUT THERE JUST FOR 5 SECONDS TO POSE A SIMPLE QUESTION TO THEM. IF I DID, THE QUESTION I WOULD ASK WOULD BE THIS. " WHAT DOES IT TAKE? WHAT WILL IT TAKE TO CHANGE THE ESSENCE OF A MANS THINKING?

P.O. JASON D. CHANDLER
NEW YORK CITY POLICE DEPT.

My fiance, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. July 3rd marks the 18 month anniversary of his passing. Dennis died doing a job he loved, just as I'm sure Brian did. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Brian be the last to die this way.

Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Officer Winder's family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out to you all. No one can truly understand the pain of our loss until they've walked in our shoes. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through this tough time, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Just know that my thoughts are with you.

Please accept my condolences on behalf of the McElderry family and remember that Brian is part of huge law enforcement family. If you ever need anything any number of them will be there for you (as I've quickly found out!) From reading the many reflections posted here, I am certain Brian was well respected and well loved.

Thank you for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please say "hello" to my fiance Dennis for me.

Peace, Love, Luck, and Happiness!

Fiancee of Deputy Sheriff Dennis Ray McElderry - EOW (01/03/03)

Dear Brian As I left your fellow officers tonight the only thought that kept many of them together was that you were watching over them. Keep them safe as they continue the good fight you fought so bravely.
