Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Travis Wayne Sass

Deputy Sass,
I will miss you. I only wish I could have had more time to know you and learn from you. You are truly an inspiration. You will alway be in my heart. **Front Sight Focus**

I stop by this website often after the death of two dear friends with the NCSHP (Troopers Calvin Taylor E.O.W. October 3, 2001 and Anthony Cogdill E.O.W. May 30, 2003).
Unfortunately, I had to add the name of another friend. Deputy Jeffrey Hewitt, Buncombe County (NC) Sheriff’s Department, E.O.W. April 4, 2004.

We all grieve over the lives lost in the line of duty. I hope you can find some comfort knowing that there are countless prayers that go out for your family.

These are senseless tragedies that never seem to stop. God Bless the men and women who continue to serve their communities in our great Nation.

...Gone, but never Forgotten....

I remember Travis as a person that always wanted to make others feel good about themselves. I remember one time there was a training exercise set up for me and I didn't think I did very well. At the end of the day, instead of telling me what I did wrong, he basically patted me on the back for how I dealt with the situation afterwards. He was always willing to lend a hand and even take time out of his schedule to give a little extra help, like showing me the way to make sure a gun fits in your hand properly. I will miss his salute at the end of every shift.

Travis, we will never forget you. We miss you greatly already.

Travis, I know I will never forget you or the times we shared. I remember all the SERT training, working in booking together and times at the range. Thanks for all the laughs, the encouragement and the selfless acts of kindness you shared. You were one of a kind, and I can only hope and pray I can be half the patrol Deputy you would have been. Rest in peace brother... we will meet again.

I will miss your humor and shooting with you. I was looking forward to working with you the following day as the new Corporal of the platoon. You were a good friend and I know that you are in a better place. Enjoy the fishing up there, one day I'll meet you in heaven with rod in hand and you can show me how its done. I'll miss you my brother.
