A true hero is measured by the actions taken in life. Officer Fettig, and Officer Bowens are, and will be forever remembered as heroes. May God bless your souls, Officer Fettig and Officer Bowens. God will have true, dedicated, heroes and partners to the end, to patrol the streets of heaven.
One day you both will be there to meet us fellow officers that will follow you into the gates of heaven, and if we maybe so blessed I will shake your hands and thank you both for your dedication to the job.
May god wrap his loving arms around the family, friends, and fellow officers to comfort them in this enormous loss.
Our hearts and prayers go out to the men and women of the, Detroit Police Department. Though we may never meet nor may we know your names, we feel your loss, and forever we will open our thoughts and prayers to our brothers and sisters of your agency.

I am a police officer in Philadelphia for 5 years and I am 26 years old the same age as Jennifer Matt's partner. I was in work today reading a departmental memo that came to us as a result of the murder of these beautiful and brave police officers and I came to this site to find answers and I find that I am leaving this site with more questions. I don't want to draw this out so I will get to my point. I am a person who is married and has a family and works crazy hours and enjoys time with friends as I am sure Matt and Jen were too and I guess what makes me angry about the whole situation is this that those two are gone and nothing is going to bring them back and any future for these two are in memory only and it is not right that thier lives were cut short because they were living out thier dreams of protecting and serving. I keep them in my prayers along with the families and thier fellow officers in DPD and police across the nation....May they rest in peace and may St. Michael watch over them
Fraternally,

Officer Down

My Brother, you were so certain about the job you’d select,
The only dream you ever had was to serve and protect.

How honorable a profession everyone would agree,
Why you’re no longer patrolling isn’t so easy to see.

Dedicated and proud, you’re a hero to us all,
How intolerable the pain now that you’ve taken a fall.

Down to your last step, you were as brave as could be,
Offering your own life while that coward tried to flee.

Every breath I take is so empty to me,
Down here on earth where my hero should be.

We know what you did, and I shiver with pride
For your courage under fire and how valiantly you tried.

Our loss is so great, but heavens gain is much more
Now your up above, the one we adored.

I promise I’ll never forget it, nor will the pain ever cease
Our angel above, of my heart your still a peace.

So proud of what you did, but I still tear up and frown
The pain of those words, “Officer Down.”
