Dear Det. Rolniak, we never met, however I find I still think about you all the time. I was so new to the job, working near Riverdale, yours being the first time I witnessed a police funeral and so close to where I worked/lived, I always felt a great impression was made upon me when you were taken from this world. It was so sad and so tragic then and it saddens me still today, now that I understand what it is to be a husband and father. I feel a great sense of pride doing the same job you did and I will always remember your sacrifice and think of you, as the rest to us continue to on out there.

Detective Rolniak - I was incensed to learn of the mayor's decision to remove your portrait from the lobby of the police station. I am very glad he's changed his mind - or has had it changed for him. Some elected folks have no idea what constitutes a tribute and what is a blatant backhand slap.

May yours be that little voice we hear in the back of our heads reminding us to practice safe tactics with people in-custody and "apprearing" cooperative. Thank you for your service to the people of Riverdale, IL.

May God grant your wife and daughters comfort. May He grant you eternal rest and may His perpetual light shine upon you.
