I LOVE YOU,
PAYTON

Nick-
Payton wanted to thank you for her gift. She loved it. All of the kids said that you would be able to get them the gift they wanted even if the stores were out of them because you could do anything.

I hope you enjoyed our visit. The kids sure did. I hope you guys are all having a great time for Christmas. We sure miss you down here. I am trying to make it through Christmas for the kids. I just cry when they are not around.

Payton is so funny opening her gifts. She was trying to keep up with the boys so I am not sure if she even knew what she opened.

I love you,
Kel

Merry Christmas Nick!
We wish you were here with us. We all miss you so much. Christmas has not been the same since you were taken from us. The kids decorated at the cemetery for you. They were so excited to see that you brought them presents. Have a good Christmas. Give everyone a hug for me.

Until we meet again,
Love you

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Hey little brother,
Well, your baby is now 5 years old. I still remember the day when I saw you holding him at the hospital and you asked if I wanted to hold him. I have never seen you so happy as the day that you got to hold your little guy. He is getting so big and grown up. He always gets the biggest smile on his face when I tell him that he looks and acts just like you.

We just got back from Gavin's birthday party that Kirstin had for him at Monkey Joe's. Gavin, Bobby and Payton had so much fun playing and Gavin helped Payton play on the toys. We also met some of Gavin's little friends. He looked like he was having so much fun. The only thing that would have made his birthday better was if you were there.

I wasn't sure about going to Guns & Hoses this year since Payton and I were really tired. I am so glad that I went. We got to see so many of our friends and we also saw alot of your friends. Your friends got us the shirts they had made for you again this year and Payton got one this year. It has your badge on the front of it and Payton kept touching the badge and said Nick and smiled. The t-shirt is very important to her.

I also went down with Mom, Dad and Gavin to the boxing ring. I took pictures and I was so glad that I got to witness this. Mom & Dad looked very proud and Gavin was very happy when he got the ring. It was an honor to meet Ryan Cousins and he gave me a hug and said that he really wanted to do this for you and Gavin and that he has a son about Gavin's age. When we left the ring and were walking back everybody kept saying Gavin's name and giving him high fives. I know this is a night that we will never forget.

Well, I had better go now and put Payton to sleep. She is so tired from playing at Gavin's party.

I love you so much,

Kel

P.S. Gavin told me that you went to the movie with him the other night. He said he watched the movie in the theatre and that you watched it from heaven.

NICK:

I was told that our friend, Ryan Cousins wanted to present his championship ring from the fights to Gavin. I cannot tell you how I felt... I am sure that you had something to do with Mom and I being allowed to bring Gavin to GUNS and HOSES. What a feeling it must have been for you to see your beautiful son standing in the boxing ring accepting the championship ring in your honor. I know that you could not have been more proud.

I just hope that Ryan Cousins realizes what a great thing he did for Gavin and our family. Gavin will never forget last night as he looked at the audience standing and applauding for the both of you. He is so proud of you SON and loves you very much.

A lot of changes have occurred over the last few months. Thanks for being there for me when I need some guidance or help making a decision. I enjoy our talks that we have daily.

I know you also had some influence with the BIG MAN helping the jury reach the proper verdict for the MCENTEE FAMILY. They are a great family who have suffered enough.

This morning we met with some very good friends at the cemetery and enjoyed a toast with you and a couple of your new friends to begin the Thanksgiving Holiday. I hope you had a good time today and I know that you and Gavin will never forget last night. I know I won't.....

I have been blessed to have such a great, close family. After you left us there seemed to be no reason to live any longer. Without Mom, Kelly, Heather, Gavin, Bobby, Payton, James and Josh, I would not be here today.

I am so proud of you and love you very much..... I would give everything that I have to hug you one more time.....

Hey Nick,
Happy Thanksgiving. The holidays are not the same since you were taken from us. Last night was Guns and Hoses, the boys loved it. Bobby wants to learn to box now. He is so cute.
Mom and dad took Bobby and Payton to the park the other day, Bobby said how sad he was because you were killed. He told mom and dad that you should have had a dog as a partner. (Last week we saw a K9 demonstration and Bobby learned that a dog partner would do anything to protect his partner.) Bobby thinks a lot about you and misses you so much.
I love you,
Until we meet agian....

Nick,
Just wanted to let you know how special your family is - but you already know that. They have been such a comfort to my family, when I know how much they are suffering as well. They allow us to smile, laugh and also let us just cry with them. I don't know what we would do without them, along with the other families we have come to know through our tragedies. If any good has come through any of this, it is meeting such wonderful and strong families such as yours. I am sure you and Bill and the rest have had many, many beers - probably talking hockey! Give him a hug for me and tell him I miss him alot. Continue to watch over your family, especially now with the upcoming holidays. Thanks. Jayne McEntee, sister of Sgt Bill McEntee

Nick-
Hope you liked your football balloon that Payton brought you to the cemetary. Payton told the lady at the store, Ball Balloon for Nick. She couldn't wait to hold it and then carried it straight to you at the cemetary. She said hi to you and blew you a kiss. Then she tried to kiss your picture but isn't quite tall enough. She asked me to help her. She is so sweet. Your balloon started blowing and she grabbed it and said "Oh no Nick". When we were leaving, she waved bye-bye to you and when we got to the car, she blew you a kiss and said bye-bye Nick. She loves you so much.

Hey little brother,
I miss you so much! I sure could use one of those great hugs from you. At work, we were planning which days we were taking off for the holidays and I didn't want to take off around Christmas. One of the girls asked why and I said that with Nick not here, it is just too hard. I know we will celebrate for Gavin, Bobby and Payton but I still can't put the tree up. James understands and puts it up and Gavin & Bobby help us put your "special" tree up. I'm sure Payton will help this year. Don't worry, we will be strong for the kids and make sure they have a great Christmas like you, Heather and I always did. Its funny because Mom & Dad talk about how they didn't have much money when we were growing up but we never realized it. They were always there for us and it seemed to us like we always got what we wanted. Well, I hope that you guys are all doing o.k. up there and I am sorry to sound so down but I just miss you so much.

I love you and miss you,

Kel

Nick~
I was once told that as our friends and community begin to
heal from your loss that the reflections would diminish and
the ones that are left would be from family and occasional
one left by others. I just want you to know that you will
never be forgotten for what you sacrificed that day! I want
you to know that just because others have been able to move
on some of us can not, not that the ones that can are forgetting you they just can have your memory in thier heart and do not need to post it here anymore. Know that you will NEVER be out of our hearts or our memories! God bless you and your entire family.
