It will be unsual not to hear 52-1, 1K 10-44 west bound from Egan come over the radio in a manner that only you could do. I would like to thank you for teaching me what you have in the past 4 years working with you. Knowing that you will never have to respond to an accident on the Interstate again has left me with a sense of security knowing that you will never have to patrol in inclemet weather again. The rest of us will miss your cooking as well. On behalf of the Moody County Sheriffs Office also thanks to all who appear above or below me offering your condolances. Deputy Troy Wellman

Ten months ago today (January 3rd) , my fiance Dennis was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. Dennis died doing a job he loved, just as I'm sure William did. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and William be the last to die this way.

Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Deputy Davis' family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out to you all, especially to his family. No one can truly understand the pain of our loss until they've walked in our shoes. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through this tough time, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Just know that my thoughts are with you.

Please accept my condolences on behalf of the McElderry family and remember that William is part of huge law enforcement family. If you ever need anything any number of them will be there for you (as I've quickly found out!) From reading the many reflections posted here, I am certain William was well respected and well loved.

Thank you for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please say "hello" to my fiance Dennis for me.

Peace, Love, Luck, and Happiness!

Deputy Davis can patrol a much easier beat now as he watches over his brothers and sisters in law enforcement from above. Family, friends and Co-Workers seek the LORD to ease your pain as we cannot begin to understand why things happen at times. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. GOD BLESS

Today is my first day of going to work since Bill passed away. It was very difficult for me to put my black mourning band on the badge. It gave me some time to think back of the memories I have of Bill. His very good cooking, and his unique sense of humor came up right away. He would always make things interesting around the office with his pranks and humor.

We lost a very good man earlier this week. My thoughts and prayers go to his brother, mother, our brother's at the Moody County Sheriff's Office, and anyone else Bill has touched during his life on earth. We will all miss you 1K.

I have had the great honor and joy to have known "Wild Bill" for more than 20 years and to have worked with him for several years. I have yet to meet an officer more real or willing to give the very shirt off of his back to anyone in need. I miss Bill. I am sad that I will not hear his laugh anymore this side of heaven, but rejoice in knowing that he gave it all for his country and his community and he rests in sweet peace today! There will never be another 52-1K. God Bless his mother, brother, friends and co workers.

THE POLICEMAN'S LAST ROLL CALL ...

THE POLICEMAN STOOD AND FACED HIS GOD, WHICH MUST ALWAYS COME TO PASS. HE
HOPED HIS SHOES WERE SHINING, JUST AS BRIGHTLY AS HIS BRASS. "STEP FORWARD
NOW, POLICEMAN. HOW SHALL I DEAL WITH YOU? HAVE YOU ALWAYS TURNED THE OTHER
CHEEK? TO MY CHURCH HAVE YOU BEEN TRUE?"

THE POLICEMAN SQUARED his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a Saint. I've had to
work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough, and sometimes I've been
violent because the streets are awfully tough. But I never took a penny that
wasn't mine to keep, though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just
got to steep. And I never passed a cry for help, though times I shook with
fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept many unmanly tears. I know I
don't deserve a place among the people here, they never wanted me around
except to calm their fear. If you've a place for me Lord, it needn't be so
grand. I never expected or had too much, but if you don't, I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne where the Saints had often trod. As
the policeman waited quietly, for the judgement of his God. "Step forward
now, policeman, you've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on Heaven's
streets, you've done your time in hell."

Finding out that any brother in Law Enforcement family has made the ultimate sacrifice is extremely difficult, let alone one who touched your heart. Having the opportunity to know and work with Deputy Davis, was an extreme honor. To his family, friends, peers and all of the citizens of the community he served, my heart felt condolences. We have lost a wonderful friend, a man who truly cared about everyone.

God Bless

Another brother in blue leaves our ranks. May God bless and keep you.

The policeman stood to face his God, which must always come to pass.

He hoped his boots were shining, just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, Policeman. How shall I deal with you?

Have you always turned the other cheek? To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulder's and said. "No Lord, I guess I ain't,

Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a Saint."

I've had to work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough,

and sometimes I've been violent, because the streets are awfully tough.

"But I never took a penny that wasn't mine to keep...

Though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills got too steep.."

And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear.

And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place among the people here.

They never wanted me around except to calm their fear."

"If you've got a place for me here Lord, It needn't be so grand.

I never expected or had too much, but if you don't...I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne where the saints often trod.

As the policeman waited quietly, for the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, Policeman. You've borne your burdens well.

Come walk a beat in Heaven's streets, you've done your time in Hell."

Please remember the fallen officers we have lost. Remember the men and women who died trying to make this world a safer and better place for us all to live in. Thank you Deputy Davis for a job well done. Please continue to watch over us and protect us as only you can. You will forever be at our side and in our hearts.

For those of you who still have loved ones with us please take the time to tell them how much you appreciate and care about them.

IF I KNEW

If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.

For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.

There will always be another day
to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do?"

But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,

That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear

Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.
