Wondering what the last 4 years would have been like if you were here.....

May 6, 2007

HI Tony,

I haven't written to you in a while and I just felt the need to say HI. My partners have been texting me all day while they have been up at the Memorial. I can not believe it has been so long already since I was up there honoring you. That was the last trip that I took....... It will not be the last trip that I ever take to the Memorial but wow, it seems like it was just a few months ago that we were there.....

Just wanted to let you know that you were being thought of often and especially today.......

Tony,

Tomorrow is going to be a tough day for OPD, as we induct another brother up there with you. I know that you are standing beside Dan watching over everyone and saddened, as we all are, that your department suffers such a heavy loss again so soon. The academy graduation for Class 14 was last week and Larry Lasater's son was so full of energy and smiling--it reminded me so much of Jakob on the day Class 13 graduated. As much as it made me laugh to watch their antics, it also made me sad to know the loss that they, and your families as a whole, have suffered. I'm frustrated that I could not be at the Memorial this year to pay my respects but I know that you are up there with the rest of the boys, watching over everyone. You will never be forgotten and you are especially in my thoughts tomorrow. Your family is always in my prayers. Peace be with you, my brother.

Hi Tony,

Well, a vast majority of "your kids" from Class 13 have been picked up and are going through their training phases. I know that you are watching over them and protecting them. Please be with them and guide them with two of the most important things, common sense and good judgement..... I KNOW you will do your best with them....

We just hung up their Class 13 Pride Run photo below your photo and plaque on the Wall of Warriors..... It's a great photo. They made sure your Guide On was proudly displayed!

THANK YOU so much for continuing to be such a strong force and motivator in our lives.

Until I talk to you again my Brother.... Good Night

Tony,
Just wanted to let you know you are still missed. Dan's loss just made it more real all over again that you were gone. I see a lot of people wish you to rest in peace, but I know you and Dan are not like that. Heaven is a richer place for having the two of you.

I love you and miss you so much. My grandpa moved to heaven this week. Hope the two of you have a lot of fun together! Remember when he asked me if you wore dentures? Your smile is so beautiful! I miss it, but see it everyday in your pictures and your little boy!

To a man of great honor and bravery...a TRUE HERO.
Although I never had the opportunity to have met you, I am in awe of your fabulous commitment to your career, your family, and your faith. I know you are rejoicing in heaven with Officer Bessant at this time.
To Jamie and the Zeppetella family...
You continue to inspire me as an officer's wife. I know the heartache you must feel everyday, especially now that another has been taken from us. I pray that the Lord may bring you peace as you continue to do what you do best each day. Thank You for your continued dedication to making our community a little safer.

Happy New Year Tony
We miss you !

Tony,
Although I didn't know you personally, I wanted to stop by and pay my respect. I know you were there yesterday with the rest of your OPD family. They're hurting again, another huge loss and so soon, it doesn't seem real. From what I've heard, you and Dan are probably on some great adventure right now and cracking jokes. Take care of him for us. Your wife, son, and OPD are in my prayers!

Tony, watch over him for us okay? Today we said goodbye to him at the same church we said goodbye to you, two and a half years ago... seems like forever, and yet it seems like yesterday. I know you welcomed him home and I know you'll show him around but I guess we can't help but worry. I've watched your family somehow get through the worst days of their lives, Dan's family will now do the same. He'll be worried about them, but I know we can count on you to bring him through. Make room for us Tony, because one by one we're going to join you... I can hardly wait to hear the new stories the two of you create! All my love... ~Shirl

Tony! Hey brother! I have been thinking about you buddy! I have been thinking about you and all of Oceanside's fallen lawman! Danny Bessant has fallen in the line of duty! He was doing his best and what he was born to do! He was making us laugh. Making us appreciate life and those around us! Like you, he is the best of the best! You are missed, Danny missed. Our two other lawman from the olde west are equally remember and revered!

Tony,
Your ranks grow day by day. You now have another brother from OPD. Too many, too soon. I suppose the first person to hug him after the Lord was you! And now I hope you are showing him the sights and places. You two probably need to tone things down some. Heaven is a wonderful place and all, but I'm not sure how ready heaven is for the two of you. One adheres to strict health diets and the other eats from the greasy spoon. The Lord loves us all.
I have no worries about you and Dan. I know you are safe and secure in the Savior's arms. But there are a lot more of us here. Maybe a couple dozen more guardian angels would help.
I honestly thought I would make it through my whole career without losing anyone from OPD in this way - after all, 20 years is a while - and now to lose two brothers in 2 1/2 years - - -
I look forward to seeing you both again - brother cops and brothers in the Lord. Romans 13:1-6

It is another sad day in the City of Oceanside. We have lost another of America"s Finest. We lost Officer Dan Bessant last week in a senseless & deliberate murder.
I pray for the both families of Officer Zeppetella &
Officer Bessant during this Christmas Season & New Year.

P.S.My prayer is that all local Pastors, Police & Community Leaders will join up forces together & reach out to the Gang Member Areas & either put them out of busniess, or find alternative ways of being productive in socity or move them out of our Communitys.

I was a cadet in the academy when you were killed. It had a profound effect on the remainder of my training and how I approach this job that I love so much. As part of the training staff now, I was proud to watch Class 13 work so hard in honor of your memory. You have been a true inspiration to us all. I didn't know the right words to say to your wife or your son at Class 13's graduation. I don't know if there ever is a right thing to say. Officer Bessant's death was a cruel reminder of how the good ones, like you, are taken away way too soon. I am glad that Dan has you up there to stand by his side and introduce him to the other amazing officers who watch over us down here. Heaven is lucky to have you. Today is a reminder that I will take those extra moments with those that I love. Your memory and your family's loss gives me that reminder. Thank you for your service and your sacrifice. Merry Christmas, Tony.
