Reflections for Trooper Michael Lynn Newton

I'm so sorry to hear of this tragic death. May God comfort your family at this time. May all your fellow officers draw comfort from our Lord and Savior. Rest in Peace...

MAJOR Daniel Caponera
USAR

To Trooper Newton's family,
Please know that even though no one knows exactly how you feel, there are those of us who have been through very similar tragedies. My first husband was also killed while on a traffic stop on the side of an interstate. He was on the side of I-40 when a tractor trailer hit him (and the other two cars he had stopped) from behind. Calvin's car didn't explode but he was killed instantly as was one of the people he had stopped. The only thing that gave me strength was knowing that at that very instant, he went to heaven to be with our Lord. He left this earth on a beautiful sunny afternoon and went to a place that we can't begin to imagine. My heart breaks for you as you begin this long (and at times lonely) journey to begin to live your life without Trooper Newton. I pray that God will wrap his loving arms around you and keep you in his care. There are many people out here who care about you and will do many things for you if you will ask. People don't know what to do sometimes but if you ask them to do something for you, they will. Things will probably seem to get worse before they get better but just remember that your loved one would want you to keep on living. There is a song by "Truth" called "If You Could See Me Know" and it talks about a loved one being in heaven and if we could see them now, we wouldn't ever want them to leave that perfect place. Imagine Trooper Newton walking those golden streets and keep your head up because it's easier to see him that way! My prayers will continue to be with you.

Trooper Newton, thanks for your dedication and service. It saddens everyone to see such a fine young trooper die in the line of duty. My prayers go out to Trooper Newton, his family, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol. He is a real hero, God Bless and rest in peace.

Any time I read about the death of a law enforcement officer, I am very sad and frightened. My dad is a police officer and I am always concerned for his safety every time he goes to work. But, I always remember what he has told my brother and I so many times: that he would never be happy doing anything else, that he truly loves his job and takes great pride in helping people that he comes in contact with. Trooper Micheal Newton was doing the job he loved and, just like my daddy and other law officers, he knew the dangers of the job, yet he performed his duties with honor and pride. I would just like to say to Trooper Newton's family that he will never be forgotten. May God be with you always.

Another hero gone. Rest in peace my brother. We will continue the fight no matter were the front lines are.

May God give your family and friends strength to carry on during the times to come. What a tragedy to lose such a fine Trooper and to lose him at such a young age.
You are a Hero to us all Brother. Rest easy now and know that you and your family will remain in our thoughts in our prayers and in our hearts forever.
To Trooper Newton's family and friends, "Lean on us...we are here for you always."

God speed to another brother lost in this horrific, preventable accident. The New York State Police lost one of its own on 12/19/02, Tpr Robert Ambrose, the same way. How this problem continues to take innocent lives is beond me. Now another agency, the family and friends must deal with the loss of another brave soul who puts his life on the line everyday to protect and serve only to leave this earth by something that should never concern us in our course of duty. God bless the family and friends of Tpr. Newton. May he rest in peace, for he is now in a better place.

"I am the Trooper"

I have been where you fear to be,
I have seen what you fear to see,
I have done what you fear to do -
All these things I have done for you.

I am the person you lean upon,
The one you cast your scorn upon,
The one you bring your troubles to -
All these people I've been for you.

The one you ask to stand apart,
The one you feel should have no heart,
The one you call "The Statie,"
But I'm just a person, not to be hated.

And through the years I've come to see,
That I am not always what you ask of me;
So, take this badge ... take this gun ...
Will you take it ... will anyone?

And when you watch a person die
And hear a battered baby cry,
Then do you think that you can be
All these things you ask of me?

**May the Lord bless and keep you Brother. May His loving arms surround your family. **

Trooper Newton,

There are many events that you are not going to be able to attend as planned, but your presence will be known by your loved ones. Your journey here on earth is done; you have fulfilled your purpose here. That of your family seems to just be beginning. Their journey will be a difficult one, but with the love & support from their family and friends they will make it. But the support they will look for the most is yours, and as a man of uniform I know that they will not have to look far for it.
My husband did not live to see his 25th birthday, and the day he died was the day my life seemed to turn upside down and I began my journey. It is not easy by any means. But nothing worth doing ever is. To your wife I want to say........your children are precious gifts, hold them close and look to them for inspiration. My son believes he is special because his Daddy lives with God. You will never be alone in this although at times you will feel like you are. Your best friend will never leave you completely.
Thank you Trooper Newton for all that you have done to fight the good fight on our homefront. Bless you!

I hear of your sacrifice and am filled with sorrow. I am from St. Louis Missouri and always wanted to be a State Trooper when I was a kid. Now I am a Police Officer in Montgomery County Maryland. Last year I lost a shift mate and close friend in a traffic related incident. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

God Bless.

To the family and friends of Trooper Newton:

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. His life was cut very short and I'm sure that coping with this will be difficult even after a lot of time passes, especially for his wife and children. I hope that you can help each other through these difficult times and keep his memory alive so his sons will know what an honorable man their father was. God bless and comfort you!
