Probation/Parole Officer
North Carolina Community Corrections

My condolences to the friends, family, and fellow deputies of Deputy Mulay. As a police explorer, I often thought about how terrible it would feel if an officer I knew, especially my explorer advisor, were to be killed in the line of duty. I am sure that the explorers in Deputy Mulay's post learned lessons from him that they will always remember, and are proud to have looked up to him. I hope that some of his explorers are able to become officers and proudly serve in his memory. Police officers are our only protection from drunk drivers, and I am very sorry to see another hero taken from us by one.

Former Police Explorer, MD

The Police Officer's Prayer

O Almighty GOD, Whose great power and eternal wisdom embrace the universe, watch over all police and law enforcement officers. Protect them from harm in the performance of their duty to stop crime, robberies, riots, and violence. We pray, help them keep our streets and homes safe day and night. We commend them to your loving care because their duty is dangerous. Grant them your unending strength and courage in their daily assignments. Dear GOD, protect these brave officers, grant them your almighty protection, unite them safely with their families after duty ends, Amen.

A Police Prayer

When I start my tour of duty God
As I walk the darkened streets alone,
let me be close to Thee
Please give me understanding
with both the young and old.
Let me listen with attention
until their story's told.
Let me never make a judgement
in a rash or callores way,
but let me hold my patience,
let each man have his say.
Lord, if some dark and dreary night,
I must give up my life.
Lord, with your understanding love,
protect my children and wife.

On behalf of the men and women of the Illinois State Police our thoughts and prayers are with the Peoria County Sheriff's Department and the Family of Deputy Sheriff Mulay.

Illinois State Police

To family, friends and co-workers:

Please accept my condolensces on your loss. My prayers are with you. This is truly a senseless act; my father and another officer were taken from us by a DUI driver 6 months ago while they assisted a motorist change a flat tire. Too many officers are tragically taken from our lives because of this stupid and thoughtless act. This crime is totally preventable and should be prosecuted with the same vigor as a crime involving a handgun or knife. The weapon of choice by this criminal was his vehicle--still a weapon and just as deadly.

To his wife and sons, I am so sorry for your loss. May God give you peace of mind, and may he comfort your broken hearts. Find peace in knowing that God has called him home to be with all of the other very special angels that have been taken from us. Find comfort in his memories and in his love for you which cannot be taken away by death.
