Dearest Conrad,
Today marks the 9th anniversary of your death. It has been a tough year. We lost Dad this year, there has been a terrible drought, and there are currently horrible wildfires. However, we have had two baby girls born into the family, and we are making it. I'd give anything for you to be here and experience everything - the good and the bad - with us. Please know that even though time is passing, I still think of you every day. We'll all always remember and love you dearly. Take care, and RIP dear Kuya! Until we meet again...
Love always,
Charmaine

Dear Conrad..

I would like to assure you and your family that this anniversary of your accident does not go by unnoticed each year. Even though it's been 9 years, it still feels like the accident was just yesterday. The events of that night are still very vivid in my memory. And, I often wonder if there was something that I could have done differently that would have changed the outcome that night. Perhaps if we had parked the ambulance in a different location, or if we had driven through the barricades to get away from the scene. I just don't know and it haunts me. Anyway Conrad, it's with a heavy heart that I remember your service today. You were a very good Officer and it was such a pleasure to work on emergency scenes with you. My thoughts are not only with you, but also with your family. I miss you, they miss you, and the community misses you.

Your Father is with you now and at peace. As I offered my condolences to your mother at the Rosary, I couldn't help but think of you. Your family is so precious. They were so kind to offer condolences to my family as we shared the same funeral home. You are dearly missed here but I know you are happy that your Father has joined you on the streets of Heaven. Until we meet again....

Conrad, The day you were killed Lisa called me to tell me about it. She was so upset and talked about you a long time. She also called to tell me about how proud she was of the way the department stood by your family and how it drew them all together. This week I was able to get her personal effects back from evidence. One of the items I got was the memorial bracelet she wore. It was for you and she wore it with her uniform every day. It is pretty beat up from the trauma she suffered when she was killed. I guess you already know all of this because Lisa has been with you since her death, but I wanted you to know I have the bracelet and I will keep it with all of her things.

It took about 8 years before i can leave a note here. It doesn't mean i'm ignoring it..everytime i open this page i can't help but cry. It still hurts the same, esp now that the kids are growing and missing you a lot. We learned to live without you but we still wish it would have been different. We miss you and love you always!!!Thanks everyone for always remembering him.

Hi Kuya,
Happy birthday! Today you would have been 43 years old. I wished Kuya Caesar a happy birthday. Although it is a marvelous and special day, we are still missing and remembering you as we always do. The kids are growing so fast and are just beautiful and handsome! You'd be so proud of them! I hope you know that you are always on our minds and that I still think of you every day. Happy birthday, my wonderful brother! I will always remember you now and always!
Love,
Charmaine

Another year has passed. Still the tears flow and the hurt is still so fresh even though it has been eight years.
Was talking to my daught-in-law's mother on September 6 and I told her that "I am tired of missing him". I know that you miss you too, but one day we will again see them and not be "tired of missing them".
God bless.

Hi Conrad,
We lost you eight years ago today just about the time I am writing this. Although time has passed on, I still remember you and the awful moment I learned we lost you vividly. I still think about you every day, and I always will. We have all learned to cope with our loss of having you in our lives, but I know we all still miss and love you so much. You have made us so proud, and I look forward to seeing you again. Until then, RIP, my wonderful Kuya!
Love always,
Charmaine

Hello Conrad,
I just wanted to wish you a late Happy Birthday. You would've been the big 42! We all thought of you and miss and still love you so much!
And what a wonderful treat - our wonderful friend Mr. Bennie White is now an official law enforcement officer! That is such marvelous news, Bennie! Conrad, the officers, the Gernale family, and the Southeast Texas community are all so proud of you! The Beaumont community is so fortunate and blessed to count you among their finest! This is a fantastic "birthday" gift to Conrad - all our best to you!
Thanks a million to Bennie, Yvette, and all the other magnificent people who continue to remember Conrad! It means so much to the Gernale family that he remains in your hearts like he does ours, and we consider you all family. Godspeed to all of you, and may He keep you safe!
Happy late birthday, big bro! We will always rememeber and love you!
All my heart,
Charmaine

Well, I finally made it Conrad. It took some years but I'm there. I am working as a corrections officer now. Wish you, Keith, and lisa could have been at the graduation. I will do my best to take all of everything that you guys taught me. Thank you my friend.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 7th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Dear Conrad,
I stood Honor Guards for you during National Police Week in Washington, DC the year they put your name on the Wall. Thousands of people were there to honor you. Now, several years have passed. The other day I put on my "dress blues" and my DC Honor Guard insignia and went to your grave to pay continuing respects. It was quiet, peaceful, solemn, with a cool, gentle breeze blowing. No one was there but me, the Lord our God, the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Honor. Thanks for the friendship, the brotherhood, and the honorable example you gave us to live by. My wife and I light a candle for you at every Mass, and we always send your parents a card at Christmas. We will always remember with great respect. We pray for your family often. Brothers........... I knew this officer and I can say without a doubt he was a fine man and great officer. I prosecuted cases that Officer Gernale had submitted to the da's office in Jefferson County and I was deeply saddened at his needless death. Rest in peace friend!

We are in the holiday season and I know it is hard for your family. HPD had another blue angel join you today. You will always be remembered for the care and concern you showed the citizens of Beaumont as well as your coworkers. You are truly missed. To the Gernale Family- my prayers are with you during this season as always for the hole that was left in all of us when Conrad was called home so early.
