Reflections for Officer Hakim Azim Farthing

TO THE FAMILY, FRIENDS, AND CO-WORKERS OF HAKIM...OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU MORE THAN YOU KNOW. MAY GOD BLESS EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU TODAY AND EVERYDAY.

GHDPS

Hakim,

I will never forget waking up on Saturday morning and seeing your number on the caller ID --and then getting the call that you had been killed. I couldn't believe it. Your number was still on my phone. I denied it, I was in shock. Words cannot describe my reaction to seeing your picture on the news. I still pick up the phone just to hear your voice. Only I know what we shared. My condolences go out to the Farthing family and to all of District Five. To Officer Hodge--Hakim was really proud of those pictures of you guys in your gear. To Tom--you were one of his closest friends and you know that. To Drew--I will never forget the kindness you showed me, he loved you like a brother. To Officer Pommerehn--he often spoke of the nicknames but told me "If I told you my nickname I'd have to kill you..(chuckling)" now I know...thank you. To Mr. Farthing--Hakim knew deep down that you loved him. Mrs. Farthing--he loved you so much and worried about you. To Eshe--he always wanted to protect you even though he knew he had to let you grow up, he was proud of you. To his grandmother whom he recently visited--you were his energy, he often spoke fondly of the memories you shared in Philly and he loved you with all of his heart. I am very proud to say that I knew Hakim and he will continue to live on in my memories. He never missed a day of work to hang out and often worked doubles. He was one of the most genuinely dedicated, kind and forgiving people that I knew. He was a superstar. We will miss you dearly Hakim.

Your special friend,

Hakim,

One of the worst fears a person can have is belief that when they are not around, something tragic happens. The devestation of you being so abruptly yanked from our lives is a feeling we cannot put into words. I can still see you with those bright red basketball shoes you used to wear during the police league. The men and women of the USPP are better for having known you. All we do from this day further will be done with you in our hearts.
Rest in peace, my brother. God has called you home for a far greater purpose!!

Investigator Garry M. Bourke
U.S. Park Police

Rest in peace Hakim,
you will be missed.

Pvt. Charles Barner III
US Park Police D-5

My thoughts and prayers are with the Farthing family in their time of loss. Hakim, I will miss your voice on the radio, so smooth and calm, no matter what the situation was. But, most of all, I will miss the smile you always had when you came into the room. It was very infectious, and caused everyone you came in contact with on the job to have a good feeling. May God keep you close and help keep Heaven safe.

Marshall B. McCorkle, Communications
United States Park Police

It's hard to find the right words to say when I still can't believe that you are gone. I know that you are looking down upon us smiling from the heavens. We thank God that although you were taken from us in body, you have been replaced with a spirit that overwhelms and protects us wherever we shall go. Your brothers and sisters at District 5 thank and honor you for your "turn at the point". May you rest in peace knowing that you were loved!

Sergeant Bryan Feeney
United States Park Police

Although our brotherhood has suffered a tremendous loss, we know that Hakim is now safe in Gods arms guarding the gates of Heaven. God Bless you Hakim, for all that you have been, and for all that you have meant, to the people whose lives you have touched..."

My condolences to officer Farthing's parents, and son. May the comfort of the Lord blanket the family and friends in this tragic time. We have all lost a brother in officer Farthing. Once again the law enforcement family has lost another member to a drunk driver. I would like to be kept updated on this case by anyone out there with information. This offender needs to be made an example of. Too many lives are destroyed due to DUI.

Hakim, Even after these few days I still cannot believe you are gone. The many times you backed me up, ate at Andrews, argued and laughed..., I wish I had been there saturday morning to cover your back...I'm sorry.
Good-bye Brother. May God keep you by his side.

Hakim-

Your loss is as devastating as can possibly be imagined. Training you, working with you, talking with you was always a pleasure. You were, and will always remain, one class act; the best that law enforcement could hope to have among its ranks. I thank you and your family for having allowed me the honor to have served with someone as extraordinary as yourself. My time with the USPP was among the proudest of my life, all that more so because of having known you.

God speed to you and your family- Peace always Hakim

IM SORRY BROTHER. WE WILL MISS YOU. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. NOR R.I.P.

Hakim,
My heart crys out to return to the day we were cut loose from field training. You were the first to ever back me up and I will never forget that... I will never forget you! You are missed.... your smile (really that smirk), your head nod, your laugh. I will especially miss listening to you on traffic stops... calming and smooth with that voice giving suspects a choice. They always felt dumb when you got thru with them didn't they?? I'm so sorry....

Hakim,
We will miss you and will feel the pain for many years. I have never felt as low as I did on Saturday morning when the Group 100 page went out. You always had a smile and kind words to say about everyone. When times were tough you stayed positive and lifted the spirits of everyone around you. May god keep you close to him, and look out for us until we meet again. We love you Hakim and will miss you.

Lieutenant Keith Horton
United States Park Police

Those of us who stand watch on the Thin Blue Line will miss you very much. We are lucky to have such a good person standing with us. May God Bless you and those who love you.

In Rememberance of You.

Somehow strong however shy.
A tasteable charm and misty wit.
A pleasing smile with a good laugh.
With a bright eye but truly educated.

To truly know you is to miss you.
Thanks for always backing me up.
Truly Thank You!

You served your department with
HONOR, INTEGRITY AND PRIDE.

You will never be forgotten!!

Your friend,

TY

My prayers are with the family, friends and fellow brothers and sisters in blue whom knew Hakim and lives he touched. Trust in the fact that he has found peace in the valley.

Seems like yesterday we were hoopin' it up at the PG Police Academy. Those times I'll take with me all through my days. You always looked pretty shooting that jumper. Never found out what the rubber bands on your wrist meant. You shall never be forgotten and your son will know what a great father he had. We'll meet again someday.
