Reflections for Officer Hakim Azim Farthing

The entire NYPD wishes the Farthing family their sincere condolences. In a year of such uncertainity in Law enforcement another hero was needed in a better place. He is in good company. Rest in Peace.

Hakim Farthing was breath of fresh air. He had an enormous heart and knew how to make you smile. He was my best friend and a brother to me. I wish him well on his journey and he will truly be missed.

To the fellow officers, parents and family of Officer Farthing, my prayers and sympathies go out to you. Rest in peace brother, you served your country and community well and will always be remembered as a hero. I hope and pray that your killer receives the stiffest punishment possible along with having to live with the fact she took the life of another good, young officer.

A Brother in Blue

St. Michael, Heaven's glorious Commissioner of Police, who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premises of all it's undesirables, look with kindly and professional eye on your earthly force.

Give us cool heads, stout hearts, hard punches, an uncanny flair for investigation and wise judgement.

Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores, strict with law-breakers and impervious to temptations.

You know St. Michael, from your own experiences with the devil that the policeman's lot on earth is not always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration.

And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your Heavenly Force, where we will be as proud to guard the throne of God as we have been to guard the city of men. Amen

My thoughts and prayers are with Hakim, his family and friends. We all lost a little something that day, August 11, 2002. Farewell Brother, guard God's throne well.

OUR PATHS CROSSED MANY TIMES OUT HERE ON THE STREET
OUR PASSION FOR POLICE WORK IS HOW WE WERE ABLE TO MEET
WHETHER I WAS BACKING YOU UP OR YOU WERE BACKING ME
WE BOTH WERE FIGHTING CRIME ON THE STREETS OF DC
THE LAST TIME I SAW YOU I HAD TRAFFIC AT SOUTH CAPITOL AND N
YOU BACKED ME UP THEN ASKED HOW HAVE YOU BEEN
ON THE JOB WE HAVE WHAT SOME CALL POLICE EXPERIENCE
BUT I CALL IT THE ANGEL ON MY SHOULDER GIVING ME THIS SIXTH SENSE
SO YOUR JOB IS NOT DONE,WE STILL NEED YOU HERE
BUT NOW WHEN YOU BACK ME UP YOU'LL BE WHISPERING IN MY EAR

While most of us slept safely in our beds yesterday morning, Officer Farthing gave his life in service to us all. To his family, friends and fellow officers, I and countless others share your pain and pray for your comfort.

Jamie Johnson, surviving sister of
Officer Jon C. Cook
San Francisco Police Department

My heart sank when I heard the call to assist US Park with the fatal accident involving an officer. Never did I imagine that when I arrived on the scene I would find out it was you. Devastated cannot begin to describe how I felt. It was just last week you backed me up on a traffic stop and we joked about how we never had time to go to the gym anymore. Your dedication to your chosen profession and the sacrafice you made will never be forgotten. Although we have lost a hero, we have gained another guardian angel. Rest in peace my brother, til we meet again.

Sgt. Antonio DeVaul
Maryland-National Capital Park Police

There is no words to express the grief we are feeling at the Park Service right now. Two dedicated officers from two divisions lost their lives within hours of each other. Officer Farthing and Ranger Eggle worked on different sides of the country but shared a common bond-that they died protecting Americas treasures. God bless the US Park Rangers and US Park Police, the law of the land.

"When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced.
Live your life in such a way that when you die,
the world will cry and you will rejoice."
(American Indian Prayer)

Our brother, Officer Hakim Farthing, lived his life doing what he was born to do. Even though we cry at his passing, he is rejoicing in the fulfillment of his life's mission.
God Bless Officer Farthing and his family at this time of such terrible tragedy. We can only hope that by continuing his legacy, we can make the streets a safer place, so that we won't have to cry over another officer tomorrow and the next day...and the day after that.

Officer Farthing will be forever remembered for his warm smile, and for the good chase...to get the bad guys.

Rest in Peace Officer Farthing -- please continue your watch over your fellow officers from Heaven.
You will be missed, and never forgotten.

FOP Auxiliary DC #1

I work side by side with the great officers of the United States Park Police everyday. Brother Farthings loss will be missed. Our battle with DUI/DWI is just beginning. We need stronger penalties for cases like this. This is more than simple manslaughter, it's murder.

Brother Farthing may you rest in peace.
