Reflections for Marine Deputy Thomas Ernest Rice

You were highlighted on the website today. Time has
not diminished your memory or your sacrifice! Such
nice things have been said here and I know you are
resting in the safety of Jesus' arms. Such a comfort to
know you knew the Savior personally and are now with
Him forever.
I love this song by Chris Rice.

Weak and wounded sinner
Lost and left to die
O, raise your head, for love is passing by
Come to Jesus
Come to Jesus
Come to Jesus and live!

Now your burden's lifted
And carried far away
And precious blood has washed away the stain, so
Sing to Jesus
Sing to Jesus
Sing to Jesus and live!

And like a newborn baby
Don't be afraid to crawl
And remember when you walk
Sometimes we fall...so
Fall on Jesus
Fall on Jesus
Fall on Jesus and live!

Sometimes the way is lonely
And steep and filled with pain
So if your sky is dark and pours the rain, then
Cry to Jesus
Cry to Jesus
Cry to Jesus and live!

O, and when the love spills over
And music fills the night
And when you can't contain your joy inside, then
Dance for Jesus
Dance for Jesus
Dance for Jesus and live!

And with your final heartbeat
Kiss the world goodbye
Then go in peace, and laugh on Glory's side, and
Fly to Jesus
Fly to Jesus
Fly to Jesus and live!

God's blessing on all who knew and loved Tom!

Dear Deputy Tom,
It is so sad to come to this site and see all the officers down.
According to these reflections, you knew Jesus personally and that
blesses me greatly as I know I will meet you face to face one day
and be able to thank you for your sacrifice. There is none greater than
Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
We don't get to Heaven based on what we do,
but what He did for us!! AMEN! Thank you for your fine
example to those that worked with you and knew you. There is now a
huge void that cannot be filled, but as you are remembered, thoughts will
turn to your exemplary life and we will be filled with pride and respect
and love for the man you became. You were a wonderful testimony to
the Lord you served. God be with all those who mourn and may His
promises lift all those with heavy hearts for many years to come.

It's hard losing someone you love. It's even more tragic to lose that person to the same fate as someone else in your family.

Condolences to the family and police department.

Rest In Peace, My Brother

I worked with Tom at the Josephine County Sheriff's Office. Tom was a great man, deputy and Christian. He was a great example to us all!

I miss you Tom!

Our family knew Tom, Rita, Erin and Dan through the years as friendly neighbors down the street. My husband had just registered his fishing boat with Tom 2 weeks before his death, and they shared a gentle laugh over the size of his
sheriff's boat, and our 10' one. We knew of Tom's service over the years in the positive influence he was in our community, and in the respect and good behavior of his children (I had Dan years ago in my Cub Scout Den, and Erin went to the elementary school where I worked.) All I can say is that the love of God through Jesus Christ
was evidenced in their home, their work, and their role models for the rest of us here in Grants Pass, and around the state. Rest in peace Tom - we'll see you in the 'morning' of eternity with

I want to take the chance to thank all the agencies who helped myself, my family, and friends of my father. The help my family received made me proud to carry the name of my father and truly showed he was a valued member of our community. The Brotherhood of Peace Officers was displayed in the highest caliber, the day of my dad's funeral. It was truly a fine service. Having performed the duties of funeral detail for my fellow veterans, I viewed a drill that set the example. Thank you, O.S.P. I hope everyone who helped finds my greatful thanks in this reflection.

Sincerely,
Daniel T. Rice

It was my honor to work with Tom and see the way he lived his life. He was a great friend, and Christian. I will miss his smiling face and his tender heart. "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13

Tom was more than a co professional. He was a wonderful Brother In Law to me. We had many wonderful times in our short time together here. Our family memories will be cherished. I believe we will meet again in heaven. Tom will always be remembered and missed by all his family and friends.

Deputy Fire Marshal Mark Moran
Jackson County Fire District #3

Tom was a great man. It will be hard for me to fill that void that was left with his parting. He sacrificed many hours to teach me everything I know to become the boat operator that I am. I could not have done it without his help. He will always be with me on the water, a recue, or just sitting at home with my family. My prayers go out to his family and friends. Tom we are all going to miss you. As a promise to you, I will go on with my training and become a jetboat instructer as we had talked about. That is the least I can do with your passing. Rest in peace my friend and may God bless you and your family.

God bless you brother, and may God bless your family.....Only a few days ago, we buried a fellow officer, deputy killed on a traffic stop by a coward. Your sacrifice, serving others will NEVER be forgotten, friend! Now, you can watch over the rest of us, for now you're 10-42 on Earth, and "in service" in heaven! God bless you brother, rest in peace!

Patrolman Chris Tillman

T0M: I will miss you. You were always a positive influence on everyone around you. Never was there a harsh word from you, just 'a tell it like it is' attitude. You were a model of what every deputy needed to be. You never took anything personally, it was just a part of the job. I will miss the weekends at Boatnik, working with you on the river. Responding to calls for help, that only your expertise made possible. You, In my mind were the Deputy of the Year because, you, were always there, 24/7 willing to risk your life, in order to give others comfort. You will always have a place in my heart, And I will always, have something to shoot for, when it comes to helping others.
