Reflections for Patrolman Francis Walsh

I pass the street named in his honor almost every day as I go to work, I remember his story through my dad, also NYPD from 46-1966 . The 32 precinct had the most officer fatalities during that time period. Rest In Peace , Officer Francis X. Walsh

I just became aware of this. I am your namesake. People call me frankie. Your sister named me for you, all those years ago. For so long, I wore your badge around my neck on a gold chain. From that, I drew on your courage and spirit whenever I needed it. Now my niece wears it, and your legacy of bravery spans another generation. I still have a copy of your badge in my purse. I see it every day, and every day, you cross my mind. God’s speed to you!

You are always in my mother's heart and in ours. She tells us stories about you, how you were her dance partner and how you were a wonderful brother. I carry a copy of your badge in my wallet and I tell the story about you to my daughter, and to my students. You live on in those stories, my brave uncle who was so loved by his family. Love, your niece, Clare Thompson-Ostrander

You were the best police officer. I like hearing the stories about you.Love, Grace, Clare's daughter.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 52nd anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

Uncle Buster,

Though you were taken 2 years before I was born, I feel your presence. My mom, Millie, always speaks fondly of you and still misses you. She carries your badge to this day. I feel I was robbed of the privelage of knowing you. May God keep you always at his side.

Thank you to all the kind people who have left their thoughts and prayers.

To my uncle, though you died before I was born, I still mourn . My mom, Millie, your sister talks about you all the time. I pray you are with God and the angels in heaven.

I can't help but feel robbed.

I met Francis at the NYC Police Academy and became friends.
We both came from military service to the NYPD. He was quiet, modest, well liked and just radiated Personal Goodness" At that time I believe he was helping support his Mom and brothers. I often wonder if his brothers became officers? I know this man went on to his reward in heaven. He laid down his life to protect others. "No greater Love."

I came across some clippings regarding this brave officer's sacrifice, while going through personal articles of Roderick Russell (my uncle) who passed in 2001. They must have been buddies from their day's living in the heights. I just wanted to state how fondly and affectionately he was remembered and shall now continue to be remembered and prayed for by me. Ever grateful for his sacrifice and condolences for his family and their unrealized dreams.
