Cigo showed extraordinary Valor, Courage, Duty and Dedication to his partner and his mission. He went beyond all expectations in his commitment to task despite being mortally injured. He never wavered. I am as proud as humanly possible of Cigo and his partner for their service and sacrifice on our behalf. I am humbled before them.

Should all mankind understand the gift of such selflessness in service to strangers, the World would become a more compassionate and loving place.

R.I.P. K9 Cigo... I’m as new as they come. Myself and K9 Jett only became nationally certified a few weeks ago. I have been with Jett since he was 8 weeks old. I do not know you, nor your handler. But even though we are a new team to the force, I weep for you and feel the loss your handler and family must have.

As we sit here upon completing our shift for the evening and hearing the news of your story from over 1000 miles away. I can only hope and pray you find peace knowing that your actions and loyalty you have shared have undoubtedly led to the preservation of life for those you serve with.

I may never meet either of you... but I wipe the same tears away as I write this message.

Rest easy Cigo, for you have given the ultimate sacrifice... we will take it from here.

Deputy K9 Joe Kern & “Jett”

K-9 Cigo, No amount of evil darkness can blow out the light from your brightly burning candle, your soul. You are a hero and a star that will shine forever. Your strength, faithfulness, pure heart and skills will always be remembered and honored. You were born to do what you did, and now you can rest in your Creator's arms - may He let your partner see you shining above when he looks up to the skies -

Cigo was a hero who made the ultimate sacrifice doing his job, continuing the apprehension still, while being wounded. He saved the precious lives of his handler and the officers on his team. His loss is heartbreaking. Because of him, husbands are going home to their wives and fathers are going home to their children. May he Rest In Peace in the tender loving arms of our Lord and may his handler’s heart heal with time, comforted by the fact his little buddy is a hero. RIP Cigo.
