Reflections for Officer Rene G. Lacau

On the 100th anniversary of your birth, I am thinking about how you were taken too soon. It’s weird that I am now way older than you were when you were killed. Not many of your family or friends are still around. Hopefully, your memory will live on even after those that knew and loved you are gone.
Happy birthday, Daddy ❤️

Another year has passed. You are still in my thoughts and in my heart. I wish you had the opportunity to have known your grandkids and great-granddaughters. You would have been an amazing Grandpa.

With love,

It was 50 years ago today - April 15, 1969 - when last I saw you, talked to you, and kissed you goodbye before I left for school. I still think of you often.

I love you, Daddy.

Dear Michelle.
My name is Earl Cline. My brother in law and your father were the closest of buddies in WWII. Because of their friendship, I got to know your dad very well.
My last contact was in 1954. I was being sent to the Pacific departing Treasure Island. Your dad and mom gave me a wonderful send off one I will never forget and that I often share with family and friends.
After hearing of your dad passing, it took a few years before we felt it safe to tell my brother in law. He took it very hard.
I wish you and your family the love and respect we had for Rene.

Thinking of you today on the 49th anniversary of your death. Yesterday I took one of your grandsons on a driving tour past the house and the neighborhood where I grew up. It was bittersweet. I wish that you had lived longer so that I could have known you as an adult and so that you could have known your grandchildren. You would have loved them ❤️ You will always be my hero. I love you!

In world war II my brother in law and Rene served together and were the closest of buddies. As a teenager, as I was shipping out, I was given tour of San Francisco by Rene and his wife. That was 1954. Never to be forgotten..
