Reflections for Deputy Sheriff William Hubbard

Deputy Hubbard, how ironic it is that I find myself traveling and in Aroostook County and waking up in Presque Isle this morning. It has been 151 years since you were taken from us. Northern New England law enforcement has continued to thrive, learn and become safer due to the traditions and sacrifices you, your family, and many others have made for us. Thank you for years of law enforcement service.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 173rd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

Deputy Hubbard, today marks the 135th anniversary of your brutal and gruesome murder at the hands of a thug. The memorial doesn’t say what that thug had done to attract your attention in the first place, but whatever it was, I cannot see it being worth taking the lives to two lawmen that were simply doing their jobs and doing it extremely well. I was heartbroken to read that the thug didn’t make it to his trial. Such is life, eh?

You and your partner, Deputy Hayden are heroes in every sense of the word and all who reside in Aroostook County should be proud to have had you both serve them. You did your job, did it well and have not been forgotten. I attended a Police Funeral in Maine several years ago and though, no matter where you go, a Police Funeral feels like a sad family reunion, there was something special about that one in Maine. You are a special breed up there and a breed to be respected and admired.

God Bless and may you continue to Rest in Peace, Brother.
