Although I was only 11 years old, when Uncle Anthony was killed, I still think of him everyday and ask why? What was God thinking? He was the most loving and caring man in my life. I am now 50 years young and he still is!!!!

Almost 40 years later, I still have vivid recollections of that sad day. On the previous tour, as a young 21 year old rookie policeman, I had been assigned to that very same foot post (as I had on many other occasions as well) on 111th Ave in South Ozone Park in the 106 Pct. I was a regular on that foot post, as was Tony. I, too spent time in that very same pharmacy where the tragedy occurred and where I also had my meal during my tour. Subsequently, on the following tour of duty after mine, Patrolman Tony Graffia's terrible incident occurred. I'll never forget the funeral procession in front of the 106 pct. later that week as we all stood in white gloved uniform saluting and at attention on both sides of the street as Tony passed by "the house" for his final time. The street was also filled with local residents, friends and onlookers (including, by the way, my own tear filled mother) who came to pay their respects. I still think about that whole terrible situation from time to time. I also remember having learned "some of the ropes" from Tony back in late '67 and early '68 during the short time I knew him. I remember discussing that memorable foot post with him quite often....just filling each other in on what was going on in the area. A real nice guy, as I still can recall... and, a good cop. Rest in Peace, Tony....... Dan Daly - retired 2nd Grade Detective
