Reflections for Police Officer Connie Smith Hawkins

Rest in peace Officer Hawkins. A true Keystone state heroine. Sad another police officer heinously took your young life.

Connors words in Women's Division, Delawate County Prison 1988 when I was 19 and green. "Don't trust these bitches over here for a second. They'll hit you just as hard as the men and they twice as vicious. " You were my senior, and never lived to where I could call you my equal. But your memory lives on in my heart and I think of you every time I hear 911 HamgUp.

Time may have passed but you are not forgotten. I believe as long as someone remembers you or speaks your name, you are still with us.
Thank you for your heroism.

Connie;
I trained you for the street but I didn't do a very good job because I wasn't there when you needed me the most. I'm truly sorry that I failed to protect you. As I'm writing this memo I'm crying because I think of you all the time. I remember how you use to yell at me when I would stop a car and not call out, then you would come searching for me then yell at me. You will be in my heart fore as long as I live.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 19th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace

EVEN THOUGH YOU HAVE BEEN GONE FOR 16 YEARS AND FOUR MONTHS NOW, TO ME IT IS LIKE YESTERDAY. I MISS YOU SO MUCH AND WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU. I WISH YOU WERE HERE WITH ME, BUT I COMFORT MYSELF KNOWING THAT YOU ARE IN A BETTER PLACE. MY HEART WILL ALWAYS BE WITH YOU, AND I LOVE YOU MORE THAN YOU COULD EVER HAVE KNOWN. I MISS YOU CONNIE. I HAVE A DIFFICULT PROBLEM KNOWING THAT YOU DIED ALONE ON THAT STREET. YOU KNOW THAT I WOULD HAVE PROTECTED YOU, AND GIVEN MY VERY LIFE FOR YOU. I REMEMBER YOUR EYES THREE DAYS BEFORE THIS HAPPENED, THERE WAS SUCH SADNESS AS IF YOU KNEW THAT YOUR TIME WAS NEAR. WE CONNECTED THAT WAY. I LOVE YOU CONNIE AND MISS YOU SO MUCH, TILL WE MEET AGAIN IN HEAVEN,

LOVE,

15 years since you got your angel wings and joined St. Michaels police patrol and still your memory is vivid in the hearts and minds of family and friends and fellow officers.
That memory held is the measure of your contributions in this life. The growth of the seeds you planted continue and so your legacy of caring, giving, and loving will go on forever.
Rest in Peace

Dear Ms. Hawkins,
I remember how you and Officer Beverly used to make sure I was safe from harm on more than one occasion and how i Kept on cutting up. You know teenagers and how dumb we are sometimes :)But you and Bev kept pushing and somewhere I found the courage inside to rise above the oppression of the city and make something with my life.
I remember the day you got shot and it really hurt me . I went to your viewing and cried the whole day . So much sadness all the people there to support you and your family. You are greatly loved and sadly missed by all.
I am very sad about Bev too and now you too are Partners for life in a world where you are always loved and respected. I know you 2 are looking out and I have been blessed with making your aquaintence. Thank you for saving this poor souls life on numerous occasions.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Connie,
I never got a chance to know you. God took you from Chester before I joined. But I remember sitting down some nights and talking to Bev, who NEVER took the band off of his wrist with your name on it.
Now I miss him, and wish I had known you. Give him a hug for me, and god bless you both. Thanks for holding the line "Girl Cop" and see you soon.
God bless,
