As the daughter of a retired Philadelphia police sergeant, and the mother of a current Temple student, I’m heartbroken for Sgt. Fitzgerald’s loved ones. So senseless for this young man to be killed that way. RIP, Sgt. Fitzgerald. Thank you for your service to our city and our children at Temple. May you rest in grace and love, and shine down on all who knew and loved you.

I did not know Officer Fitzgerald, but his murder hits me especially hard because I am a two-time Temple University alumnus (undergrad and Law degrees). Temple students and alumni need to see the criminal justice system deal with the perpetuator firmly, fairly, and expeditiously, so that the Temple Police Department can continue to command the confidence of the campus community.

The huge decision one makes in life to
PROTECT and SERVE their community as a Police Officer, is one of courage. You, Officer Fitzgerald, made that call because YOU WERE A BRAVE MAN.
