Reflections for Trooper David Kedra

Trooper David Kedra, it is with heavy heart that I offer my final salute to you, your family, loved ones, friends and fellow Pennsylvania State Police co-workers; gone but never forgotten; absence from this earth is a depiction that you are now in heaven...rest well my Brother, you have served your country well! MRP

KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY

They always knew they could be
They never thought they would be
God knows none ever should be
Killed in the line of duty

Some made their final stand
Their profession’s last demand
They fell with gun in hand
Killed in the line duty

A routine to many a cop
Some made one final stop
Someone’s Mom or Pop
Killed in the line of duty

Others answered one last call
To a robbery, theft, or brawl
They arrived only to fall
Killed in the line of duty

Some were dressed in brown, some blue
Some in gray, and plain clothes too
Some were dressed like me and you
Killed in the line of duty

May their souls be forever blessed
For they who are now at rest
Died doing what they loved best
Killed in the line of duty

Forgotten they never could be
Forgotten they never should be
Thought they never would be
Killed in the line of duty

God bless all those who fell
They are missed and loved so well
Let us pray and toll the bell
Those killed in the line of duty

Amen

IN MEMORY OF TROOPER DAVID KEDRA

To the family, friends, and colleagues of Trooper David Kedra:

From the beginning of time after Cain killed his brother, Abel, there has been a need for law enforcement officers to protect the weak and to bring evildoers to justice. This work is necessary in a sinful world and is dangerous. In modern times, some ninety-nine state troopers have sacrificed their lives to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Today, we honor the sacrifice of Trooper David Kedra, of the Pennsylvania State Police; who was accidently shot and killed, in the line-of-duty, while participating in a training exercise at the Montgomery County Public Safety Training Complex in Plymouth County, Pennsylvania, at about 4:45 PM on Tuesday, September 30, 2014.

Lord God, we are grateful for the life of Trooper David Kedra. He died serving us. Help us never to forget. Help us celebrate the life of Trooper David Kedra and honor his sacrifice. Be with the family, friends, and colleagues of this fallen hero. Comfort them and give them your strength. Guide those who seek to take care of the family of this hero. May those empowered to do so, care for them with integrity. In commemorating the death of this hero, help those who mourn to remember that death is not the end. Death does not have the final say, but is simply the transition to the glorious life to come. They should look forward to that life to come with joy and thanksgiving.

As for the citizens of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, help them to faithfully equip their law enforcement officers with the best tools to protect their state. May their training be adequate to the task. May we all learn from this terrible tragedy so that these types of accidents can be mitigated and/or eliminated all together. Help the citizens of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to remember to pay their law enforcement officers fairly and treat them with respect. Help the citizens of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to obey the law and treat each other with dignity so as not to add to the burden of crime and pain to their state.

The time for mourning will soon pass. We have now remembered and celebrated the life lost in this great tragedy. As the family, friends, and colleagues of Trooper David Kedra go forward, they must celebrate the good things in their lives; and to celebrate life itself!

Finally, Lord God, we pray for the families, friends, and colleagues of all the law enforcement officers who have been killed in the line-of-duty and we thank you for their sacrifices. Bless the lives of their families, friends, and colleagues so they might find healing. Help their law enforcement organizations support the families of these fallen heroes. Even though their deaths might have been senseless, make something good come out of these situations so that their law enforcement organizations and the communities in which they lived and served might be stronger because of their lives and their deaths. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Now, may the Lord bless you, and keep you: the Lord make His face to shine upon you, and be gracious unto you: the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.

A police officer should be remembered not by how he died, but how he lived! A great man has gone to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you to you, your family and the Pennsylvania State Police. Our country is a little less safe without you. Rest in Peace Brother!
