Reflections for Park Ranger Ronald Van Trussell

On the second anniversary of your only son’s death. I wanted to let you know that you continue to inspire with your life of excellence and dedication to our country. Your influence was always alive in your wife and son. While never remarrying Mona went on to serve her community as a volunteer firefighter and school bus driver and one of my family’s dearest friends. She remained a staple in her little town helping anyone she could until her death in 2020. She raised your son to have integrity, to serve others and be a loyal man of his word. He also served his community helping those in need in any after hours roadside emergencies or any way he could. Narrowly surviving a house fire and after a five month coma with years of recovery he continued to be grateful for everyday God gave him. He taught my kids the value of a man’s word and to protect those who couldn’t protect themselves. I marvel at you and your ability to instill in him these traits, with your very limited time with him. May your now complete family rest in peace knowing that you all three made this world a better place. I try each day to be a little more like you all and you will forever be missed with much love and respect.

I remember going to school in 1947 with Ron and his sister Ann in a one room school house in western Kansas. There were only 6 children from the area ranches then. I was sorry when I heard he died in a plane wreak.
His father Van Trussel used to give me the paper ring off of his cigar, when you are 20 miles from town that was a treat for a little kid.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 41st anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Rest In Peace
