Reflections for Patrol Officer Sean Allen Collier

Nothing I could write at this time would carry as fitting of a message as Senior Master Investigator Cardell L. Dobbins. As a Retired Chief I look at this young mans photograph and see so many young officers who have had gods loving arms wrapped around them. We all have had incidents we shouldn't of survived, but did. God bless you Officer Collier, my condolences to your family and coworkers.

Retired Chief John R. Graham

TO THE FAMILY, FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES OF MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY POLICE DEPARTMENT, POLICE OFFICER
SEAN COLLIER.

My heart is filled with great sadness at learning of the lost of your loved one and fellow Officer.
We in the law enforcement community are a family.
Though we may wear different uniforms and have different badges, shields or stars pinned upon our chest.
We consist of many different agencies from across the nation, for we are:
Municipal Police Officers, Sheriff's Deputies, State Police Investigators, State Highway Patrol Troopers, Conservation Officers, College Campus Police Officers, Correctional Officers and Federal Agents just to name a few.
We patrol small towns, large cities, college campuses, county roads and state highways.
Whether active duty or retired, we are one family, a law enforcement family, brothers and sisters bonded together by HONOR, SERVICE and PRIDE.
Daily we honor our fallen brothers and sisters never forgetting their sacrifice.
Daily our position is clear that we will SERVE and PROTECT our communities without faltering and with no hesitation.
Daily we show pride in our chosen profession LAW ENFORCEMENT, for we willingly walk the line of GOOD over EVIL facing the unknown with COURAGE keeping our trust and faith in GOD.
We know that evil roam these streets and at any moment in the course of performing our duties the ultimate sacrifice might be required of us in the service to our community, for LAW ENFORCEMENT is not a job but a calling and only a few will make the decision to commit to that calling to serve for some will give all that they have.
OFFICER COLLIER
You did not die in vain
You sacrificed your life in the service to the citizens of Massachusetts with Honor, Pride and Distinction.
I'm proud to have worn the uniform of a law enforcement officer like you did.
I'm proud to have pinned the badge upon my chest like you did.
I'm proud to have served and protected my community as you did.
I'm proud to call you my BROTHER!
I commend you my fallen bother for making the ultimate sacrifice in the performance of your duty.
For you left us doing what you chose to do.
Performing a job you were trained to do.
Upholding the oath you swore to do.
Most importantly doing what you loved to do......................SERVING and
PROTECTING your community with HONOR and PRIDE making a better and safer place for us all.

A portion of a letter from the pen of President Abraham Lincoln, printed in the Boston Evening Transcript on November 25, 1864.

“I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic (he) died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.
Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,
A. Lincoln”

As a 24 year old police officer, it is sobering that another young officer was killed in the line of duty while attempting to apprehend suspects that caused the death of a few, but put fear into many. May there be justice and peace for Ofc. Collier's family, as well as, the MBTA officer injured. To all other officers it is a reminder to stay safe and always remember that the most important thing is to come home in one piece. God rest his soul.

There is Evil in this world. But as long as there are brothers and sisters like Sean Collier willing to stand against it, Evil will never win. Sean, know that the fight you started is now being pressed by your brothers and sisters... and we will win. I am so sad for his family who has lost him so unexpectedly and violently.

I can see from his photograph just how compassionate and open he was. May his friends and family be able to remember him one day with joy instead of raw grief.

I'm a woman in her seventh decade who lives in Rockville, MD. I have been sad and subdued all day.
