Reflections for Trooper Eric Michael Workman

So saddened to hear the news.

May you rest in peace after having served those around you. My thoughts are with you, your family, fellow officers and friends.

Reserve Officer G. Krystof
Los Angeles Police Department

For Trooper Eric M. Workman:

Our duty as patrol officers on the highway is often a tedious and boring job, however the tide changes almost instantly, especially when we effect an arrest. We are thankful for the immediate response of other law-officers who made it to the scene to permit the perp to elect a final dispostion in this case. We regret that our brother Eric would become the next law-officer statistic in a deadly enounter.

We pray for Eric's family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him. May they be ready to reach-out to one another in the days ahead.

We are proud to render Trooper Eric M. Workman, a soldier-of-the-law, a final salute.

Cpl. Ralph D. Fiorenza (Ret.)
Pennsylvania State Police

My God bless and look over these fine officers and their surviving families. It is unfortunate that this tragedy ever happened, but it did. Hopefully, we will learn from this very costly situation that every suspect is a danger to our welfare and deserves our constant vigilance.

‎"Policeman's Heaven"
Author: Unknown
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining
just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No Lord I guess I ain't,
because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a Saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my work was rough.
Sometimes I have been violent,
because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
that wasn't mine to keep.
I worked a lot of overtime
when the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
among the people here.
They never wanted me around
except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
but if you don't I'll understand."
There was a silence all around the throne
Where the Saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly
for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets
You've done your time in Hell."

Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Trooper Workman, although I didn't know you, you were a graduate of WV State and a Yellow Jacket just like me. Your memory will go on and even in death, you are still serving your fellow man by being an organ donor. Your family will continue to be in my prayers. WV State black & gold yellow jackets forever.

Rest in Peace Brothers you have paid the ultimate price.

A Part of America Died
Somebody killed a policeman today and
A part of America died
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
And spend many lonely nights
The beat that he walked was a battlefield too,
Just as if he gone off to war
Though the flag of our nation won’t fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star
Yep, somebody killed a Policeman today,
In your town and mine
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie side
He answered the call, of himself and gave all
And a part of America died today.

It is a very sad situation when a civil servant die in the line of duty. I only hope that friends and family will remember Trooper Eric Workman as a man who gave his life for the protection of fellow law abiding citizens. He'll live in the hearts and minds of those who knew him. Although I did not know him, I do share his line of work and now this is a hard job, a job that you have to like, a job with many sacrifices. May he rest in peace.
