For Inspector Timothy Charles Barnes:

Our job in law enforcement requires that we be be trained both physically and mentally. While in the course of our training it is sometimes learned for the first time in our lives that a physical problem might exist. We regret that our brother Tim would become the victim of such an unusual and unfortunate occurence. An honorable career in a branch of law enforcement has been cut short by a terrible fate.

We pray for Tim's family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him. May the be ready to reach-out to one another when the need arises, and to remember him as one who stood so honorably among them.

I am proud to render Inspector Tim Barnes a final Salute.

Cpl. Ralph D. Fiorenza (Ret.)
Pennylvania State Police

I met and became friends with Tim several years ago. We both at the time where working for the Wilson County Sheriff's Office. Tim transfered to the Nash County Sheriff's Office, and I as well moved to Nash County a few years later. I too became employed with the Nash County Sheriff's Office and we rekindled our friendship.
Tim and I where both SRO's for Nash County Sheriff's Office, and Tim gave me alot of guidance/advice. I appreciate the guidance/advice brother, and your friendship. I miss you brother, but I know we will see you one day in Heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ.

Deputy J.R. Pearson

In Honor of your Sacrifice and for your family and friends, I salute you as a HERO!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whose blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"

IT was with great sadness the news of Insp. Barnes passing came to our office. I taught him in this DMV Academy, and was struck by his professional demeanor and kind easygoing way. He offered his assistance in the future for our ongoing work, for which I was grateful to be able to draw on his relevant LEO experience.

This light is unfortunately put out far before its time.
To the family of this fine man I say we share your grief. There are no words of comfort short of saying he now resided in a better place, and his legacy will not be forgotten.
