His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"

My respect and sympathy to your family and fellow Deputies. Your death struck a familier chord with me, a Police Officer friend of mine was killed in a very similar way, falling to his death in an attempt to help citizens involved in an accident. As hard as your death is for us to accept, the manner in which you died truly displays what a protector of the flock will do. No one "should" have stopped on a an icy bridge during the night to help, that would be very dangerous. But you are not just "someone", your a sheep dog who knew it was his duty to help, even if helping ment risking your own life. Thank you for your service.

Sergeant Aguilar - To die in the line-of-duty is bad enough...to die on your birthday, even sadder for those who love you. Next month we will wear our mourning bands during Police Memorial Week. You will be in my thoughts.

Deputy Sheriff’s Prayer

When I start my tour of duty God,

wherever crime may be,

As I drive the darkened streets,

let me be close to thee.

Please give me understanding

with both the young and old.

Let me listen with attention

until their story’s told.

Let me never make a judgment

in a rash or callous way.

But let me hold my patience,

let each man have his say.

Lord if some dark and dreary night,

I must give my life,

Lord with your everlasting love
protect my family and wife.

For Sergeant Franco Aguilar:

Our duty as an officer on patrol takes us into situations that for the average person would be hardly imaginable. The circumstances under which we have to work can create confusion, illusion, misunderstanding and even error that is the basis for which others might be critical without the benefit of experience. Only those who patrol can truly identify, and only those who have "been there" can truly understand. Tragedy lurks at every moment of the day for those on patrol. We regret the news of our brother Franco's fate. Only our Creator can account what happens to us, while the rest of us grieve and wonder.

We pray for Franco's family, friends, co-workers and those who care about him. May they be ready to reach-out to one another as the days of need present themselves.

I am proud to render Sergeant Franco Aguilar, a soldier-of-the-law, a final salute.
