Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Joel Brian Wahlenmaier

Joel, this truly is a nightmare. I as well as everyone in our agency hoped that we would never have to suffer the tragic loss of another deputy. I look at your picture and can't believe this has happened again. We were hired together, sworn in together, went through the FTO Program together, and worked together on and off for many years. You were a good cop, but more importantly you were a wonderful person. I will miss you always and forever. May God bless you and your wonderful family and provide them strength through this time in their lives.

Joel was a great person! When I was about nine years old, Joel came to live with my family for a summer. He slept in my bed for the summer while I retreated to the floor. He was eight years older than myself and someone I always looked up to. He was kind, good looking and had an infectious smile. Not a bad shot with a bow either. I'll never forget the time he shot a squirrel with an arrow while driving a jeep. Despite his modesty, I bet he's bragging about that shot right now and God probably doesn't know whether or not to believe him. Joel, God Bless You and we'll see you on the other side!
