The Badge

I come in many sizes,
In many shapes I'm made;
I'm on a shirt or in a case,
Or by other means displayed.

I've stood for many things, you know,
Throughout my many years;
I've reflected hero's faces,
And been wet with widow's tears.

I've been scratched and sometimes tarnished,
I've been repaired along the line;
But with steadfast duty as my brush,
I have kept my honor's shine.

I tell the world of my intent,
And all who see me know,
That whoever wears me, knows the way
That their life has to go.

I'm the symbol that they call the "badge,"
I'm an emblem held in awe;
And to those who try to live by right,
I represent the law.

But no matter what I'm made of -
Be it silver, tin, or gold,
I stand for things the same today
As I did in days of old.

GODS SPEED TO ALL OF YOU!!!!
JOB WELL DONE

I just finished my shift, quietly stole some kisses from my sleeping kids and wife, and now have to read of this horrible event. I always get tears in my eyes when I can come home safe and kiss my children and wife. We will fight for the community, and protect the best we can any given shift, but only ask and pray that we can go home after performing a violent thankless job. God bless you brothers and safe home to the Lord!

R.I.P Mr. (Officer) Hege, It was great having you as one of my teachers at T-High. Very patient and fun person to be around! This is very shocking to me and a lot of your former students and saddens us! You will be miss by so many!

My heart goes out to the family of Officer Hege. "Thank You" will never be enough.

Here I am,
Lost in the light of the moon,
That comes through my window.

Bathed in blue,
The walls of my memory divides,
The thorns from the roses.
It's you and the roses.

Touch me and I will follow,
In your afterglow.
Heal me from all this sorrow,
As I let you go.
I will find my way
When I see your eyes,
Now I'm living,
In your afterglow.

Here I am,
Lost in the ashes of time,
But who wants tomorrow,
In between,
Longing to hold you again,
I'm caught in your shadow.
I'm losing control.

My mind drifts away,
We only have today.

Touch me and I will follow,
In your afterglow.
Heal me from all this sorrow,
As I let you go.
I will find my way,
I will sacrifice,
'Til the blinding day,
When I see your eyes.

Now I'm living,
In your afterglow.
When the veils are gone,
As I let you go,
As I let you go.

Touch me and I will follow,
In your afterglow.
Heal me from all this sorrow,
As I let you go.
I will find my way
I will sacrifice,
Now I'm living,
In your afterglow.

Bathed in blue,
The walls of my memory divides,
The thorns from the roses.
It's you who is closest.

…Assist those in peril or distress, and if necessary, lay down my life rather than swerve from the path of duty…

Difficult words to truly understand for anyone who has not taken an oath to be a protector of society. It is with great pride that I salute your bravery and honor that I am considered a brother in uniform.

Peace be with you.

"My Brother"

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was idealistic and believed he could make a difference.
He was immensely proud of the uniform and the badge and what they represent.
He felt privileged to be of service to his department, his community and to his country.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was friendly, courteous, and polite, yet firm.
He laughed and joked, but was serious when necessary.
He was competent, trained, and professional.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He had a strong sense of right and wrong and became
frustrated when true justice became sidetracked.
He felt the sharp criticism that goes with the job, but he
never wavered.
He stood by and for his fellow officers.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He longed for his family during the long hours.
He worried about them during his shifts and the lonely
weekends, holidays and midnights when they were apart.
He felt guilty about the lost time, but knew his calling
and prayed they would understand.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was a good son, a loving husband, and a devoted father.
He was dedicated to the profession and cared about the
people he served.
He wanted to do the best job that he could and strived to
be the best he could be.
He was a good citizen and a good neighbor.

He was a cop.

Yes, I did know him.
He was a cop, he was my Brother.

Rest easy Brother Hege, we have the watch...

”I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”

You answered the call and made the ultimate sacrifice. Rest easy in God's kingdom and watch over us as we continue the battle here on earth!!!

Dear officer John Hege... I am so sorry this had to happen to you!!! You didnt deserve this at all!! This is just not fair-- My husband, Bradley Moody, was a Richmond Police Officer and he was killed in the line of duty back in October of 2008. It's been almost six months since he has been gone... and it still hurts like the first day!!! Please give him a hug when you see him--Tell him I miss him!!! I know that you, along with all of the other fallen officers are going to be watching down on us now... please keep us all safe in this crazy world!!!

To the family at the Oakland Police Department... I am so very sorry for your loss. I felt horrible for the Richmond police department when we lost Bradley...but I can't imagine what you guys are going through loosing four of your brothers. My heart goes out to you all.
