Chris,
You were always a pleasure to work with and talk to and I am honored to call you a friend. I remember being off duty and talking to you at a shopping center with my family. You let my daughter climb in your patrol car, and you even turned on the lights & siren for her. My thoughts & prayers will always be with you and your family.

You were always a “class act” Chris, whether it was on the radio or by phone. Your Chief has been quoted in the media as saying you were a, “compassionate officer who had inspired many grateful calls for his kindness on the job”-I have no doubt of this. Your professionalism was demonstrated daily with how you interacted with the dispatchers in the radio room-always polite, and usually with a "Yes,Mam" or "Yes Sir" slipped into the transmission. My wife spoke very highly of you after meeting and talking with you at the NHS back to school night last Fall. As I sit here and write this, I am praying for your wife, kids and family, as well as for your brothers and sisters in blue and anyone else that had the privilege of having known you-our hearts are heavy as we mourn your loss. You are in God’s hands now Chris, rest in peace.

Police Officer Chris Jones:

Nobody knows the reason that any law officer who is dedicated to serving his community suddenly has to die and under such horrific circumstances. I would like to think that we really are called for duty elsewhere by our Creator whatever the time and place. Somehow this reasoning has never satisfied my understanding and created any kind of a calming acceptance inside me. Just the same, I hope to understand at a time and place in the future.

In the meantime, I can only be awed by anyone who dons the uniform and badge of a soldier of the law in a world full of risk and danger just about everywhere. One of our largest and deadliest battlefields is a United States highway.

I would like to blame the public for not being more caring and more vigilant. But, that is neither productive nor soothing to the many hearts close to Officer Chris Jones. The blame, if their is any, is with any of us for even trying to choose someone to hold responsible for this incident or any other one. It simply does not improve this situation,...those past,...nor those to come. And, there will be more.

In the mean time, we are better to honor Officer Chris Jones as the hero that he is. One who chose a job that he knew could bring his life to an end on any day that he went on duty. He knew it, and we knew it too. Those of us of are living must salute him for being a hero among us. Those of us who have died under similar circumstances, I am certain, will be waiting to embrace him and welcome into the eternity that he so proudly has earned.

May our Creator have mercy on both Officer Jones' soul and comfort his family and friends at this difficult time.
