My thoughts and Prayers are with the family of Martha on this day. My Prayers are also with the Deputies and others that worked with her and have had the chance to know her. This is always a sad day when we lose one of our own to the hands of violent person. Even know I did not persanlly know Martha, I was brought to tears when I heard the news today. knowing that this could happen any day we put on our Uniforms and leave our families to go to work. May God Bless the family of Martha

I visit this site often with the hopes that its list will not get longer. When I see a new name on the list my heart drops to the floor knowing that another Father, Mother, Son, Daughter, etc.. has given their life in the line of duty. It continually brings tears to my eyes when I read the personal reflections that are left by the fallen Officer's Family and Friends. I hope you can rest easy knowing that this brave HERO is watching over us from her place in Heaven. She served with honor and will never be forgotten. Rest Easy Deputy Woods-Shareef . We will truly miss you. God Bless you and your Family.

Today we are all mourning the tragic death of Martha Woods, a Lafourche Parish Deputy. It is hard to think of the perfect words to say, the perfect thing to do to make this difficult time a little easier. There are no perfect words, but there is a silent strength in the friendship we had in knowing how much Martha loved our community and especially her devotion to our young people. Martha's friendship was a gift to all of us. With a kind word or a thoughtful gesture she brought happiness, with her smile she brought comfort to all. She was a gift to everyone who was lucky enough to have her call them "friend." Martha was a dear and devoted member and friend to the Lafourche Prevention Partnership. For many years she volunteered to perform the duties of SYNAR (reducing the sale of tobacco to minors) and other Partnership sponsored events because she believed in creating a healthy Lafourche. She was a kind and devoted deputy and community activist. We offer sincere sympathy to her family, friends, and co-workers and will keep them in our prayers and thoughts. May God keep you in His Precious Hands, Martha. Farewell to our dear friend.

I fight not for glory or fame,
For they are momentary.
I fight for those who can't.
I fight for Justice.
I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden.
And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets,
For I serve to protect the innocent.
It matters not where or when,
For evil knows no boundaries.
Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny,
I will not flee.
Justice is my weapon.
Faith is my shield.
Hope is my armor.
Cry not at my passing,
For it was my Honor to fight for you.
Shed not tears of sorrow,
But tears of joy,
For now,
I stand with God.
