Reflections for Trooper Zachariah Earl Templeton

Rest in Peace..brother

Ofc F. Capistrant

October 14, 2007

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Trooper Templeton and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Trooper Templeton has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.

To the family, friends, and colleagues of Trooper Templeton, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Trooper Templeton is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

For those who pledge to uphold it, Freedom requires a sacrifice the protected will never know.

Zach,

From the first time I met you, you always stepped up first and did the job. When you were nervous, you never showed it. You were a great Trooper and a better friend and always there for somebody when they were in need. In the academy, you helped me shine boots and I helped you study. With that we became friends and even though we didn't keep in touch, when we saw each other, we picked up where we left off. It has been a pleasure knowing you. Patrol the streets of heaven with great pride, knowing you served the citizens of Colorado in every way you could. Rest in peace my brother and God Bless.

This is the first time I've left a reflection... In reading your short bio, I am touched and feel a great connection in the sense that I, too, have a 3 year old and am a single Father. We thank you for your service and I hope, and pray, that your Daughter grows to know that you served everyday and died making this world a much safer place. I pray that your Daughter will also grow to know her Father and will never forget that no matter how little she knew of you, that you will always be her "Daddy." My heartfelt condolences to all of Trooper Templeton's Family and Friends, as well as the Family of Law Enforcement in Colorado and the United States. Rest easy and always watch over your Daughter and your beat partners. Aloha

Zach, your passing has left a hole in the fabric of the 1D Troop, as well as that of the State Patrol. It seems like yesterday that we were all standing in the gym "toes on the line" not really knowing what was coming next. Then it was graduation and hitting the streets. The days become years and then the unthinkable happens. One never knows when their time is comming to an end.... see ya Zach. Another time, i'll be looking for you.
