Tiffaney....Words could never help the heart ache and desperation, that you are going through, and for his parents..to lose a child, before theirself, is devastating. For his children... his memories will live on forever, through everyone that knew him, or just knows what it is like to lose a hero, out protecting our communities, Or through the letters that were wrote. You have to be strong for them, and that's tough.
There are others of us out here, that knows your heartache. We are still living it. I was the future mother-in-law of Deputy Philip Rodriquez that passed away 04/21/07 in Mohave County. My daughter, and Philips sister, Audie, drove down to Georgie's funeral, along with fellow "Law brothers". They heard you speak...and they cried for your pain, and what you have lost...and they said your children are beautiful, and they cried for them. Just hang in there, for your boys, and people that love you all. God has to have a plan...to take such wonderful boys, fathers and sons, from us. I guess he needs to make his "army" stronger. If you ever need ANYTHING, just someone that knows the pain, please feel free to e-mail us back.
You and your boys, and family are in my prayers.
He is beside God now, and his brothers, smiling down on you....and yes....time..lots of it...will heal your heartache..or at least make the pain a little duller.
Hang in there....and God Bless you, and all of "Georgie's" family. You are in Mohave County's prayers. Donna

My prayers are with your wife, 2 sons, parents, family, friends, fellow brother and sister officers, entire department, and the citizens whom you so honorably served, giving the ultimate sacrifice. This saddens my heart, but I know that God has you 10-4, forever more in his loving care. There are no words, except to say, "A Hero does not become a Hero by their death, but by how they lived their life." God Bless!

I attended your memorial today, and what a sight. So many officers and friends were there, obviously missing you. You were loved, and missed. May your boys and wife find comfort in knowing that you are a hero, and that you are now resting in heaven.

Words cannot express my feelings of sorrow for your wife, your boys, your family and friends. You were taken far too quickly from this life. But I know that you are at peace now, in eternal fellowship with Christ in heaven.

You and your family will be in our hearts forever. You will not be forgotten. Rest well my brother, we will indeed take it from here.

I was 30 then and I am going to be 65 in Dec. You will think of Georgie (as you call him) Bob was (my Bob). I love him to this day. You really have a good stable family to back you up. My son wanted my to call you or go to the funeral because he thought I might be able to be of some help . I just couldn't do it.. My heart goes out to you and your two boy's . "My Brother"

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was idealistic and believed he could make a difference.
He was immensely proud of the uniform and the badge and what they represent.
He felt privileged to be of service to his department, his community and to his country.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was friendly, courteous, and polite, yet firm.
He laughed and joked, but was serious when necessary.
He was competent, trained, and professional.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He had a strong sense of right and wrong and became
frustrated when true justice became sidetracked.
He felt the sharp criticism that goes with the job, but he
never wavered.
He stood by and for his fellow officers.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He longed for his family during the long hours.
He worried about them during his shifts and the lonely
weekends, holidays and midnights when they were apart.
He felt guilty about the lost time, but knew his calling
and prayed they would understand.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was a good son, a loving husband, and a devoted father.
He was dedicated to the profession and cared about the
people he served.
He wanted to do the best job that he could and strived to
be the best he could be.
He was a good citizen and a good neighbor.

He was a cop.

Yes, I did know him.
He was a cop, he was my Brother.

Rest easy Brother Cortez, we have the watch...

”I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”
---Isaiah 6:8

You answered the call and made the ultimate sacrifice. Rest easy in God's kingdom and watch over us as we continue the battle here on earth!!!

It saddens me to read yet another biography of a fallen hero. My husband was a Detective of the Toledo Police Department and was shot and killed in the line of Duty in February. I know how the department and the family is hurting and I can't help but cry for you. Officer Cortez is a true hero who made the ultimate sacrifice. Nothing will bring comfort to you but know thousands of people across the country have you in our thoughts and prayers. God Speed brother, you patrol those streets of gold and if you run into my husband, tell him how much I miss him and how proud of him I am.

To his wife and family. I know the pain and shock you are in at this moment. I wish I could tell you what to expect in the future but my situation is so new itself. Just let the department support you. We are one big brotherhood, and you will soon find out how much that is true. Take care.

Every time we lose an officer, my heart breaks. Without men and women like this man, we'd have no one to protect us. So my thanks go out to every man and woman on the police force. My thoughts and prayers are with this brave man’s family.
