My condolences go out the family and friends of Deputy Norris. I tape the show 'The Rookies' on A&E and just watched today. I was not prepared for the ending. As the daughter of a retired police officer and with good friends still in law enforcement, I was greatly saddened. Thank you to each and every law enforcement officer out there, as you put your lives on the line every day for the citizens of the areas you serve.
Regards,

I can really quote this posting below mine as it really speaks the truth for me as well...

I watched the memorial show of Joshua on the new series ROOKIE. I thought that it was a wonderful tribute. My thoughts and prayers are still with the family and friends. I am recently past my 1st year with the police dept. and know how Joshua most likely felt during his training and first days solo. I commend his courage and will always remember our fallen brothers.

This was a sad reminder of what we all know we could potentially face everyday we go into work.

Stay safe and god bless.
My thoughts and prayers to the family.

To the family, friends and co-workers of Deputy Josh Norris.

Please accept the condolences from the men and women of the Newport Police Dept, we can all remember the experience of Field Training and being "on your own" for the first time. I recently watched "Rookies" and was reminded of that period in my career. I was completely shocked and saddened by the ending, it was a tragic ending for a young Deputy who's enthusiasm reminds us all why we wanted to become Police Officers and Deputies in the first place.

After just seeing Officer Norris on "Rookies" I was sad to learn of his untimely, and yet, heroic passing. Thank you Officer Norries for keeping us safe. As I write this from 1000 miles away, I am yet grateful for what you and other men and women do every day so me and my family can be safe. Thank you. You paid the ultimate price! God bless you.

Deputy J. Norris,

I also watched the t.v. show on A&E, Rookies. I am dating a police Sergeant who said it was important for me to watch this episode, as he knew the outcome but did not tell me. I enjoyed watching you grow throughout your training and was so excited when your FTO said you were progressing and how proud of you he was. I was even more excited for you when you were cut loose and your first FTO got you a pool car. I thought to myself, "Wow, what a great episode, I am so glad my boyfriend had me watch this." And then your update scrolled across the screen, I was excited once again for your engagement but was completely unprepared for the text that followed.

Any officer death is hard for me to swallow, it sickens me. But yours has effected me in ways I wasn't expecting. Maybe it is your passion for the job, the way you wear your St. Michael pendant the very way I do, or your innocence, maybe it's all of that. I keep a clipboard of all the officer deaths from this website but yours is now posted in my cubicle, where I will see it everyday, where I will remember your sacrifice.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, your fiancee and your family. May you rest in peace and may you always be at St. Michael's side.

After watching Rookies, I developed a new respect for police officers and was very sorry to learn about the passing of Deputy Sheriff Norris.

It was very comforting to know he died doing what he loved, and that is protecting and serving.

I am another who watched you on the Rookies. I was so saddened at the conclusion. You seemed like an incredible young man, who was led to this career as a LEO by your heart. I just wanted to stop by and say thank you for your service. May those who knew and loved you be proud of who you were. Know that you will always be part of our "blue" family and you will not be forgotten. Rest in peace, Joshua. Thank you for your service.

Hey son

Well hope you doing good up on St Pete's watch, the TV showed aired a couple of days ago and just as I though a nation feel in love with you, you have that effect on people. I know you wanted to have that stone face look, but hey would take that boyish charm over my mug any day. Hell you not only sweep Jess off her feet but everyone else at the house with that face and charm. The day the program aired was my last official day with the department, while at the academy talked about the episode with Carrier, but was the conversation with everyone at the department when I said my good byes. Carrier was talking how surprise he was that the Sheriff had agreed to evening doing it from the beginning and how the A&E guys took to you. Beth, Jess Amber and I watch it together, even your old smoking buddy Timmy came over to watch it. It was great to see you again and hear your voice , but was heart breaking at the same time. I will say it even stop Duke, when you voice came on his ears perked up and he looked around. Well Josh you are always on my thoughts and still think what it would have been like right about now if that day had turned out a different way. Well movie star I know you are grinning ear to ear right now, with that little smirk you had when you and Jess would push my buttons to get a rise out me, you did good boy and proud of you. Take care son and hopefully will see you when it's my time, watch over everyone. O yea what were you shaving in the program, you little peach fuzz face kid ha ha

I was proud to watch how you progressed. Your FTO seemed to know his business. I can only guess it was not lack of ability on your part but that evil will sometimes win. Most likely you knew this but you handled your calls as a man to keep the bad in line for the rest of us. Thank you.

Hi Josh, like allot of others here, I too watched the "Rookies" TV show and it made me think about my first few days out of the academy not knowing what to do, thinking that someone should call the police when I was at scene on a call, and yet I was the police. I saw that look of excitment in your eyes, doing the job and learning how to do the job...your courage and ultimate sacrafice will never be forgotten by anyone. I wish your friends, family and co-workers all my best with your tragic loss. You will be missed, and you will always remind others of the price you paid helping people in your community by getting involved and making a difference. Rest in Peace!

I just viewed the episode of "Rookies" and am completely devastated. I wanted to express my heartfelt condolences to Deputy Norris' family, fiance, and the members of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office. Joshua seemed like a fine, young man and a good officer. We can't know God's plan for us but I'm sure he has great things in store for Joshua. Rest in peace, Deputy Norris.

Josh,

Just finished watching you on Rookies like a lot of others did. I had lots of flashbacks to when I was just out of the academy, trying to figure out how to do this job. Luckily, you had a great FTO, as did I. It was great watching you make some of the little mistakes that we all made when we first got on, but then learn from them. I felt real pride for you when you got the key to your own squad, but then was shocked when I saw the tragic end to your way-too-short career and life. Even if it was only for a short time, you made a difference, and died protecting others. For that you and your family can be eternally proud. Rest easy, brother, for we have the watch from here.

As many other here did, my wife and I watched the Rookies episode with excitement, hope for the rookies, and sometimes laughter. Josh grew so much during his training and we were proud when he got his own car from his "big brother" FTO. We are so sad that this happened, especially the bittersweetness of his engagement the night before and starting his new life. He never got a chance to show what a great deputy he could be, but we know he would have been! Many prayers and thoughts for Josh and his loved ones, as well as his fellow deputies. Rest in Peace, In Valor There is Hope.

Deputy Norris,

I was watching your episode of "Rookies" and was proud of your enthusiasm for your job. Our society has placed professional athletes on a pedestal for too long and lavished them with ridiculous amounts of money. They are heroes to children yet, we seem to forget who the real heroes are. Josh you are a hero, a young man who gave his life protecting others. I wish there were some way to adequately compensate these brave police officers for what they do on a daily basis. They make far less than one should for doing what they do on a daily basis but, you will always hear them say that they do not serve and protect for the money.

This young man gave his life protecting us and it's such a horrible loss. My heart goes out to his family, fellow officers and friends and I pray for their strength. God needed another strong angel to protect the gates to heaven and Josh is there waiting to greet those who find their way home. Rest in peace Deputy Norris.
